| SS2 Sound Effects

In-game, speech is heard but sound effects are not. (i.e., no footsteps, gunshots, doors opening.) A sound test will not work either. I have the following mods installed: ADaoB Rebirth Shmup SHTUP All of theses are in their latest versions. I have ran Oggextract, as I have the HOTU version of the game. I also run the game as administrator.

Oops, filled out "name" field as "SS2 Sound Effects."
Sorry about that! :S

Have you performed the other steps listed here?

Yes. I've disabled SHMUP and used Oggsetup again. I'll post back with the results in a bit.

UPDATE: It still doesn't work.

In the game's sound options, put this slider in the middle position: Positional Sound Bias

It is. The problem is still present.

Ah wait a second. You're probably on Vista or Windows 7, right? Turn off hardware acceleration in the sound options. It's not supported beyond WinXP. You'll need Alchemy to get it back working on these OSs. See the link Enchantermon posted.

I'm on Windows 7. Hardware Acceleration is grayed out, and I don't have hardware that supports Alchemy.

You didn't use the SS2Tool, eh? Did you ever make your game mod ready in any way? Ah well, let's assume you didn't. Unpack a fresh HOTU version and read the SS2 Tech FAQ.

I did. I think I might do a fresh install anyway.

I assumed that because several entries that are made by the SS2Tool were not present. I mean you may just have not selected the according bug fixes. It's just that most people check everything, I get kinda used to that.
Anyway. In cam.cfg add at the bottom:
sfx_device 1

I just did a fresh install, and have only ran SSTool and installed SSMM. That line was there, and there is still no sound. It had ran in the past on this computer, so I know it's not a hardware issue.

Huh, have you run HOTU's OGGsetup before the SS2Tool? Otherwise I'm a bit stumped on this one. By "still no sound" I take it you mean that you mean that footsteps, gunshots, doors still can't be heard.

Yeah that's what the problem was. It was all about the order in which everything is run. Last install, I had neglected to run OGGsetup before SS2Tool. It's all good now! Thanks for your help.
