More likely to be onomatopoeia. I'd say 70% onomatopoeia and 30% interjection.
'cause "interjection" literally means "thrown in between" right?  :serious:

SHTUP has been named one of "50 essential mods" in PC Gamer UK (Nov 2009). (As discussed on TTLG)

Forgive me if this is a stupid question; I'm still a little lost when it comes to the different types of textures and what can be updated and what can't. If the texture replacement capability of DDFix were modified to work with SS2, as it seems to have been, would it then be possible to replace the old monitor textures with the new ones in SHEMP? Or is this still impossible without modifying the mission files themselves?

It should be totally possible. There are two caveats--

1. DDFix can't do anything about texture animation rates. All updated textures would have to use the original slow frame rate, or a special DDFix gamesys would have to be created.
2. As NV and I discovered while incorporating SHEMP into the unstripped missions, many of the tech textures were placed with very poor alignment. This is barely noticeable with the original low-res textures, but *very* noticeable with the new high-res textures.

3. The light maps (shadow quality) will still be the same as if the original low-resolution textures were being used.

Hmm. So how bad are these caveats? Would they make things look really awkward if texture replacement was used?

It would still look better, especially if the replacements were 1024x1024 or something extreme like that.

I just need some clarification here.. Are you saying that using bigger textures would make the shadowing look better?

And now when i am posting here.. Hows this project doing?

That was also what i was thinking would be the most correct. It acts the same way when mapping for Source. Scaling the textures would however make them look "better"

Just letting everyone know that AT&T Worldnet, my longtime net host (over 10 years!), has finally dropped dead. So I've moved the SHTUP site to a shiny new domain-- www.shtupmod.net. Spread the word!

For some reason whenever I install SHTUP, whether manually, or using the Mod manager, I cannot load a save game. I can start a new game, and it will play quite nicely, while looking great, and I can save the game. If  I then deactivate the mod everything seems to be fine, but I can't load with the mod still active. The progress bar will run to about one third full, and the game will quit with a message asking if I want to report the error.

I followed the instructions for installing the game, patch, and MM, (Starting with copying the Shock folder to the hard drive, instead of using the installer) and so far, SHTUP is the only mod that has caused this problem. (Other mods running are the Rebirth mod, the full set of Tacticool weapon mods, and Eld's psi amp. Deactivating any or all of these seems to make no difference to the crashing on load problem)

As far as system specs go;
Ati4650 (with 1gb of memory) With the newest drivers
2 gb system ram
AMD Athlon II x2 2.8ghz (dual core fix is installed)
Windows XP SP3

Hopefully that's clear enough, and what I am wondering is if anyone else has encountered this, and if they managed to figure out a way to fix it.

I don't mind playing without SHTUP, but it is so much prettier that I am hoping for some way around this.  :thumbwink:

Sorry, I can't think of any obvious cause for what you're experiencing. Does the same issue occur with the previous version of SHTUP? Perhaps try deleting chunks of it from your install folder until you can load saves again?

I've tried both beta 5 and beta 6 with the same results.

I'll have a go at wiping things and see what happens. Though I suspect that, whatever the file(s) at the root of it may be, the real problem is going to turn out to be drivers for the graphics card.

Thanks for a quick reply, though.  :)

It could also be the graphics card itself, lacking memory.
I mean if it was really really old. It could happen!

Well, after much precision testing, (Read: I hit the delete key a bunch of times, and then copied things  back until it broke again...)

I seem to have narrowed it down to a few files, in: C:\Games\SHOCK\fam\skyhw\
The files are, skyb.pcx, skye.pcx, skyn.pcx, skys.pcx, skyt.pcx, and skyw.pcx.

Without those files the game loads, though, oddly, the textures are missing for, (at least) the shotgun and the pistol whether I am using Tacticool's mods of the original files.

So, this is driving me slightly insane, because being a modern sort of guy I want what I want, and I want it now...

Further experimentation, (this time, extracting original copies offending the files from fam.crf and overwriting the ones from SHTUP) now has the game loading, and the pistol is once again all updatey and fabulous. The shotgun, however remains textureless. Since these files appear to be (according to the titles and the images they contain) tiles for the skybox, I am at a bit of a dead end since I can't see why those files should be affecting the shotty.

Obviously I'm missing something.

Ok, now I am being a pain, I know...

The shotgun now works, as far as I can tell it's because the wrong file was being cached by Windows...

Isn't that nice of Windows.  :p

Which means, as far as I can tell, using the files from the original fam.crf to replace the ones that are not working appears to make SHTUP work, sort of. Obviously any file I replace isn't going to be updated, but it looks like the rest of the mod is working.  :)

Sorry to have been a bother.

What you're saying now doesn't even make sense.  "cached by Windows"? What?

I'm starting to think that your SHTUP install is just botched somehow.
