The nanobot mod in these screenshots is based on the Talon droid model, an unused original SS2 model.
The mod is still being developed by Jinx.

You could easily create two types with a different texture. The friendlies and the Black Killer Bees.
Just what the friendlies do to help you I'm not sure of yet, or how you would trigger or control them.
If you could indeed control one, it could act as a drone, possibly sending you it's scouting view (thief scouting orb) or they could independently attack baddies.
The unfriendly version could attack you with tiny lasers where a single one doesn't do much harm but it adds up.

There are. There was a .mis file around a while back that took a lot of the unused objects from SS2 and threw them into a room for people's amusement. Not sure where it is, but it's probably still floating around somewhere.

Also, Christine used working Talon Droids in at least one of her FMs; I forget which one(s). Zombe also got them working, though I'm not sure to what extent.

There are. There was a .mis file around a while back that took a lot of the unused objects from SS2 and threw them into a room for people's amusement. Not sure where it is, but it's probably still floating around somewhere.

There were Talon droids in at least Ponterbee Station and UNN Polaris; I'm not sure if UNN Nightwalker had them. Anyhow, IIRC it is pretty easy to make them using a Psi Reaver as a basis and giving them a laser projectile. I recall creating them in a gamesys back in the day (about 5-8 years ago).

Yep, I've finished both and I'm already halfway through UNN Polaris.
