Difficulty installing SS2Tool/mods

Hi,

I recently stumbled upon RoSoDude's Rebalanced Skills and Disciplines mod and it looked really exciting, so I thought I'd give it a try (the one seen here: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=11194.0)

Unfortunately, during the process of preparing my SS2 install from the standard Steam install to the mod-ready version per the instructions on this site, something went wrong.

Everything seems to update OK at first.  I followed the instructions.  I installed SS2Tool, updated it, then loaded the mods via Blue Mod Manager after running ss2bmm.exe.  However, when I run the game, I'm... invulnerable. 

Also, the difficulty/rebalance mod seems to not have been applied, as all the initial cybernetic module costs are vanilla.

What did I do wrong?  How do I make myself not invulnerable?

Can you share a screenshot of your mod load order? Would also be helpful to see your ss2.log, as it dumps mod and other config info. I'm not the most knowledgeable about technical issues like this but it might be something I can easily identify.

Also, it's worth checking if you moved your SS2 install outside of your Steam folder, as I know there can be issues running SS2Tool inside protected folders.

yep, ss2.log and ss2bmm.log would be helpful (maybe a few screenshots as well). if the tool finished up properly, the first thing to try would be running the game again right after patching up, if it still works properly, start adding mods one by one to identify which one is causing the issue. and remember, no old saves.

also, you actually are invulnerable on the earth map (when not inside the trainings).

Sure, and thanks for the help.

First things first, I moved the SS2 installation folder to my Desktop, so we should be good there.  I also ran SS2Tool as Admin (I am on Windows 10) and then ran ss2bmm.exe as Admin.

Same result as before.

I have attached a screenshot of my mod load order; as you can see, it's just the two from you.  (Really excited to play this, btw, right up my alley).

Also, as it seems you're a veteran player, perhaps you want to try out the beta for SS2-RSD 1.08? I completely overhauled the weapon modification system and added armor mods, should be a good time. Of course, you will be acting as guinea pig in case there are any issues with it

I applied the SCP mod at bottom priority, followed by RSD above it and Scary Monsters on top.  Everything seems to be working, though I haven't gone past the 1st hybrid.  I am taking damage now though, so that's good.

I would love to try the beta.  I will most definitely update the beta thread with any results I experience.  Thanks for all your help.

I thought I did that already, but maybe I did it incorrectly, or left some dangling DML without it. I'll have to take a look.

Found the issue. While the gamesys DMLs are properly fingerprinted, I misinterpreted how fingerprints are supposed to work and this lead to mission DMLs activating for SCP maps and maps with the vanilla mission fingerprints. This meant broken inventory shenanigans on character creation in some cases and in the 1.08 beta, some very unstable overlay elements working with incomplete data. The next release will fully require SCP, with only textures and strings getting loaded.
