Greetings,

When I launch the SS2 Tools installation wizards and after the online check, I get the error "The local game content version is unknow. An update is recommended.". Although I can continue the installation, I wish to know if this is normal, because I could not find any subject about it here nor with google.

I bought the game with GOG, and installed it today. The game's path does not exceed 80 characters, and is not located in both program files.

What gives, then?

SS2Tool has its own content versioning (and compares it to the master build of the game on our server).
This message might appear if you never used SS2Tool before or if you deleted ss2tool.log
In any case it's harmless, you can just run the update.
