Can't think of a title yet, because I don't know exactly what is going on. For now I have just one question: does SS2 use any S3 texture compression?

I think NewDark can handle dds with compression.

It can.. but it doesn't?
Alright, different question. The basic door in the game has a little coloured fluorescent thingy where you would expect the handle on normal door, a blue or green square, I believe. It breaks on my computer. Tt can be multi-coloured, purple with little shades of blue and black.
How is the texture of that little square different? What type of texture is it, what kind of compression does it use?
I'm interested in this little problem because it might explain a host of other texture problems I'm seeing in other games under Wine. SS2 is the only game where that issue seems specific or limited to just a few textures. If I can figure out what they are, maybe I can do something about it. So far I've learned that S3 support for legacy GPU's on Linux is sketchy at best. I thought maybe that has something to do with it.

In Gothra village, the girls’ sit-in finally notched a small victory.
