SS2Tool, which already manages enabling subtitle support.
the question is this bit;
Code: [Select]
subtitles_hide_types nonverbal
subtitles_dim 20 80 86
subtitles_font_dir fonts\
subtitles_font_name mainaa
subtitles_spacing 1
;subtitles_bg_color 0 0 0 0
subtitles_show_descr
subtitles_max_dist_bark 50
should it be included in the cam_ext distributed by the tool or is it something optional?

I'm not perfectly sure (am at work) but I think that is already included.

If you select the subtitles option in the SS2Tool, that part is written to cam_ext.

seems like the custom email texts in FMs are being skipped, and the text from vanilla strings is displayed instead.

There are FMs that include subtitles?

yeeah for some reason I was thinking the mod actually reads the strings (it does not). anyway, as far as vemails are concerned, it would be useful if it actually did, I think.

Yeah no, there's no custom scripting going on. Subtitling just runs off data files. It's entirely an internal engine function-- no way to involve scripts in the process.

I'm assuming the issue you're seeing is with FMs that override the original email WAV filenames. That is indeed a problem. I can't think of any solution for it either, short of advising people to disable subtitles entirely when running FMs.

disabling the vemail part should do, I think.

But perhaps I can just enjoy the neon murder.
