open both dml files with notepad, and paste the contents of the second one into the first one (but without the DML1 header. only one instance of DML1 must exist in the dml, right at the beginning), or use a modmanager (blue or zee), or just drop the dynamic sky into the DataTempMods folder to avoid the dml conflict. see here: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0

Hello,

I want to ask about earth.mis.dml file which is required to run your mod. I also use SS2 CyberBlutch Rebirth 03 mod, which require same file. Any way to merge those files?

remember, you need all the files from the archive, not just the fam folder.

Ok, I'll try that.

Thanks again

if you have patched up with ss2tool, all you have to do is open the downloaded archive, and drag and drop the contents to your DataPermMods folder. and start a new game.

I still can't get this mod to work?

I tried using the latest system shock tool which added enhanced_sky 1 into cam.cfg, I've also added enhanced_sky 1 into cam_ext and inserted all files and folders to their proper places but it still isn't working?

I've tried starting several new games rather than loading previous save points to see if it helps but it doesn't?

Ok, I'll do that then.

I'm in the middle of creating a batch of awesome SS2, animated gifs.

Many thanks

no problem. just make sure to use the DataPermMods folder. and no ";" just enhanced_sky 1

« on: 26. September 2013, 15:21:34 »

Thank you for the response, but won't that overwrite my entire fam folder?

Also, do I need to add a ";" before I add the string or is simply adding "enhanced_sky 1" enough?
Posted by: voodoo47
« on: 26. September 2013, 15:09:53 »

that won't work.
extract to your DataPermMods folder, and make sure you have enhanced_sky 1 in your cam.cfg (or cam_ext.cfg). if you are using the GOG version, you will need to update your game as described here first.
do that, and you can't go wrong. do something else, and you will. enhanced_sky 1 can be added anywhere, as long as it's a new, clean, unused line.

I've added the files to the correct folders (I think)?
I never replaced the entire 'FAM' folder in my shock directory I simply added the file (clouds95.dds) from the downloaded mod and placed it into the previously empty skyhw folder and added the other remaining files as described in the provided readme.

I'm having difficulty with the cam_ext file, do I simply add the string "enhanced_sky 1" anywhere within the cam_ext file or do I need to add the entry at a soecicific point and do I need to add any other values as I can't get it working, the sky is still static for me?

Thank you

Let me add that since SS2Tool 5.1, "enhanced_sky 1" is set by default.

very late reply - you will also need to have enhanced_sky 1 in your cam.cfg (or cam_ext.cfg) for this to actually work.

Simplest way for this to work: copy “FAM” folder and “earth.mis.dml” to your “DataPermMods” and you're done. No need to touch “cam_mod.ini”.

Note that newsky might not show up if you load a save game made before this mod was applied. In that case you will have to start a new game.

Because i wanted a little wider public attention to the effort I uploaded the video to youtube, linked to the thread and credited the author (if i got the name wrong lemme know i'll change it.)

Just kindof didn't like the video only existing on a single site. After all some of the older material points to megaupload which is dead.

Ya I tried that. Didn't work.

this is how i did it. added enhanced_sky 1 to cam.cfg in root folder. put cam_mod.ini in root folder.

put earth.mis.dml and FAM folder into datapermmod folder. voila, it works.

I'm having trouble installing this mod. I started with a fresh install of GOG version SS2. I ran SStool5.0 with default settings and updated. Then I installed my mods. Reading this thread I have the clouds95.dds file in DataPermMods\FAM\skyhw\clouds95.dds.  I put enhanced_sky 1 in cam.cfg located in root folder. Didn't work. I tried every possible thing I could think of; I extracted the newsky folder in DataPermMods, I deleted the cam_mod.ini from DataPermMods, I deleted the cam_mod.ini from the root folder. I merged the two cam_mod.inis. I copied/moved/replaced the earth.mis.dml file, etc.

I don't even care about this mod. It's not like this is a map for a mission. I'm just walking across to the building lol.  I just want to make it work.

It's ok, managing perfectly fine now thanks to the great advice on here! I feel like such a newbie. Have been using this site for about 3 years and playing SS2 for 10, everytime I leave it for a year or two and come back, there's more great content (and even more modding methods lol) to be found.

Only still struggling with Vurt's mods, unfortunately.

yeah, I should remove them (the redundant files).

as for the mm, until somebody makes one, you are out of luck.

Oh for crying out loud. My apologies, I did NOT follow instructions. Although my question regarding other files stands.

« on: 17. February 2013, 03:53:08 »

Have (definitely) followed all instructions, also using SS2Tool v5.0. Nothing but a blank orange sky.

Unless... does it all go in DataPermMods folder? Or does the cam_mod.ini file belong somewhere else? Don't particularly fancy overwriting my current one just in case.

What about earth.mis.dml? The instructions only state what to do with the FAM folder. If FAM placement is all which is required, I'd suggest removing other files  from download and uploading as separate download if they are some kinda source files.

Have been playing modded ss2 for years but now MM is no longer an option... gonna be subjected to a lot more born-again-n00bs like me!

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. ONE last question I promise. Where do I put the HQ player model found here?  (and other such models): http://members.iinet.net.au/~ragtag/GHOST_M.GIF

Sorry for bothering you and being such a noob.

On an unrelated note, how do I replace the intro with the higher quality one found here?: http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112595

Just curious.
Rename it to cs2.avi and drop it in DataPermMods\cutscenes

don't forget, if you are using the GOG version, you will need to update your game as described here first.

then you can extract the FAM folder from this mod to the DataPermMods folder (so you will have DataPermMods\FAM\skyhw\clouds95.dds). if you won't get the location right, you will only have the solid yellow sky.

Oh ok. Sorry I'm new to modding. Literally haven't played this game in a decade until yesterday. Didn't see that thread.
Thanks very much!

I've tried everything to get this to work and all I get is a yellow/orange haze for a sky with no clouds. I put the folder and ini in the DataPermMods folder, launched the game, new game, sky is all one color. (Using dynamic btw. I KNOW my pc can handle it) So I exit the game and add: "enhanced_sky 1" to my cam.cfg (not sure if it matters where you put that line in the cfg file; I put it in the middle) saved it, launched game, new game, same problem. Wtf?

Using the GOG version if that matters. Why can't I get it to work

I tried this with the GOG version and SS2tool 4.8 ... and it did not work. I still had to add "enhanced_sky 1" to cam.cfg by hand (contradictionary to the notes in the first post). Besides that I love it :-)

added the static version - might be useful for some intel guys (or those who are running very old graphics cards that barely meet the minimum requirements for NewDark - think Radeon9550, Geforce6200 and similar).

pulled straight out of the new demo. load as any other SS2 mod, and make sure you have enhanced_sky 1 in your cam.cfg (or cam_ext.cfg).

edit: added the static version. it looks exactly like the dynamic one, but it is, well, static - that means it should be much less taxing on the gpu. if you want a nicer looking sky, but your integrated graphics card just can't handle the dynamic version without serious FPS drops, the static might cut it for you.
