Looks like some issues cropped up...disappointing. I was looking forward to playing this in 2018

I was looking forward to seeing the levels redesigned. As much as I love the look of the remake we're getting, in a way we've already seen it. Granted it can't be a carbon copy as the map artists revealed in their streams. But I liked the look of the Unreal Alpha demo. I liked the prospect of waking up in medical and not immediately knowing my way around the level. But that being said, I'd probably push to make the levels curved on their relative z-axis to sell a centrifugal force gravity constraint. Which contradicts the tech of the universe and thus, why I shouldn't be in charge. What's the feelings with everyone-else? I know all the things like feature-creep did push the project further away from what was backed, but I do wish they'd give themselves a little slack on the creative reins and show us something new, not repainted.

I also would have liked to see a free interpretation of SS1. But I wasn't completely sold by the direction they were going for.
For example I wouldn't take cues from SS2 if a SS3 game is also on the way.
SS1 is a brainy game. And that's as unfashionable today as it was back then. The real task is to make a brainy game that overcomes this trend by using today's tech very creatively. But adding enemy dismemberment didn't seem to be that way.

I agree. Adding new mechanics, that while cool in their own right, weren't even remotely hinted at in the original simply asks for trouble with achieving balance. This isn't System Shock: Hacker of Fortune.

That would be more akin to Shadowrun.
