I'm looking for the texture file (.PCX) for the two-state buttons, usually used for lifts like in the cargo bays and up from the starter MedSci science sector with the 4 upgrade units.

Thanks! That's so strange, I would never have found this on my own. But hey, if it works...

I'm trying to modify a GIF texture for an enemy, put both a PNG and a GIF in (Mod Folder Name)/mesh/txt16 to make sure, but it's not updating. Any ideas what could be preventing it?

Did you actually activate it as a mod in the mod manager?

I'm trying to do this too. Can the mod manager replace GIFs with custom PNGs if you package it properly? I've been playing around with the GIFs in txt16 - it doesn't work unless the PNGs are the only files in there to replace the default GIFs.

Yes. I modified other textures and those work.

yes, if you have properly named replacement files in an active modfolder (ideally dmm/mymod/whatever the original file location was in its crf, and activated in the mod manager), the game will load them.
post your mod, we can check it.

Nevermind. There were two texture files for the enemy, and I had picked the wrong one (maint bot, manbot9 instead of manbottex8).
Edit: is REGANIM.PCX special somehow? It's not being replaced when I'm following the same procedure as with other fam/Tech things
Edit Edit: for whatever reason the game looks into obj/txt16 for it

Are you perhaps working with SCP and/or SHTUP enabled?

I am. Are there are people who aren't working with SCP?

in an ideal world, there wouldn't be any.
make sure your texture mod has a higher priority, or pause SHTUP for the time being (in the manager).

SCP covers up all QBR back wall terrain screens with an object screen because the vanilla terrain texture breaks the rectangular screen into a square texture, which causes a thin vertical black line to run through the center of it due to texture edge tiling.
So the FAM texture was changing, but you couldn't see it.

Has anybody modified the textures P0006? I changed both series, in fam/st_tech and hyd_tech, but my changes didn't go through.

have you actually checked the name of the texture you are trying to modify in the editor? because you should be doing that.

What editor? I'm just viewing into .crf files in res folder, finding textures and replacing them with identically named PNGs

Once again: You're running with SHTUP enabled. It replaces P0006 (and every other tech texture) with material textures. The FAM texture isn't used at all.
If you want to just screw around with modifying textures, you really shouldn't have SHTUP enabled.

the ShockEd editor. generally speaking, if you are even half-serious about SS2 mods, you will have to use it at some point. SS2tool can install it for you (there is a checkbox you can tick during the setup). in your case, even if you modify the texture (and disable SHTUP), you may not be able to see the change, as you may not actually be looking at the correct texture ingame (some look very similar, but actually aren't the same. for example, you modify the P0006 texture, go ingame and look at the place that you think uses it, and there is no change, as in fact, that place uses a slightly different texture which you haven't modified yet. and the editor would allow you to tell, as you can select it there and see the actual name).

Remember that the player's body is spherical (as far as the game knows)
