Announced in 2021 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXgBg2sEmqA, Quake: Mjölnir is a free, open source expansion of id Software's classic 1996 first person shooter Quake.

It is inspired by one of the earliest concepts of Quake, that players would wield Thor's hammer Mjölnir and explore a medieval world of magic and monsters.

The Mjölnir team, of which I, Josiah Jack am a part under the game name Qmaster, is glad to announce the release of Quake: Mjölnir 1.0 on Quake's 27th birthday of June 22, 2023 (well close enough.  Upload was started yesterday).

Download from Slipseer (1.54gb): https://www.dropbox.com/s/4bcnyt5x5tw7256/mjolnir1.0.zip?dl=0

We recommend playing Mjölnir in a modern Quake engine such as Ironwail (https://github.com/andrei-drexler/ironwail), vkQuake (https://github.com/Novum/vkQuake/releases), Quakespasm-Spiked (https://github.com/Shpoike/Quakespasm), or FTE (https://fte.triptohell.info/downloads).

We hope you enjoy this first playable release of a very long-standing project featuring work by many artists and musicians; full credits can be found in the Quake: Mjölnir Manual (https://www.dropbox.com/s/spnu60t6qezduu5/Mjolnir.1.0.Manual.pdf?dl=0).

Mjölnir is powered by Keep (https://josiahjack.github.io/KeepModReadme/), which itself incorporates content from Arcane Dimensions (https://www.moddb.com/mods/arcane-dimensions), Drake (https://www.quaddicted.com/reviews/ter_shibboleth_drake_redux.html), and Arms of Asgard (https://www.quaddicted.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=624), among others.

`Quake: Mjölnir includes artwork whose creation was supported by the University of Manitoba Department of Icelandic in 2021 (https://vinlandtovalinor.com/ips/upload/files/pdf/Icelandic-Department-Christmas-Newsletter.pdf), and we would like to thank them for their support.`

I'm super excited for people to enjoy it.  The people on the team who made all the incredible levels really knocked it out of the park. Now I can go back to working on Citadel!

And this is just when I have started to think modern-day Quake modding couldn't get any more awesome...those screenshots look terrific, and the whole Nordic flavor this campaign has to it is really up my alley (shame on me for not having heard about this project before!).

I definitely know what I'll be playing next - I'll make sure to tell about my impressions once I'm done.
