For a few years now we have an inactivity check that springs into action when a user does not log in for a year. That user then receives an email to the address they registered with:

Quote by Systemshock.org: Inactive account deletion :
Hey {user_name},

if you don't log in again, your account at Systemshock.org will be automatically deleted in 30 days:
https://www.systemshock.org/

You can retrieve your password here, in case you forgot: https://www.systemshock.org?action=reminder

You haven't logged in since {last_login_date}.
If you don't remember Systemshock.org, you can simply ignore this email. You will never hear from us again.
If the user does not log in, their account is gone. They can register again of course, even under the same name. And usually we will be able to attribute their old posts to their new account.
We do this because we don't want to keep personal data about you (email address) when this place serves no purpose to you anymore.

However time has shown that some people:
- come by but don't log into their account
- forget and rediscover this place every few years
- never check the email address they gave during registration

If one of these points applies to you, you may want to change your email in your profile to one you actually check and/or disable the inactivity check for your account.
To do so check the checkbox at "Inactivity check disabled" in your profile's account settings.

Your login data will then be retained until:
- you re-enable the inactivity check + 1 year after your last login
- you delete your account yourself in your profile
- we delete your account
- this forum's existence ends
- heat death of the universe

P.S.: Since this touches on the ways we deal with your personal data, a change of our Privacy Policy is forthcoming, which you will have to confirm.
