Dark just renders a percentage of the width of the health bar bitmap equivalent to the AI's current HP / max HP. At certain percent thresholds it swaps out the bitmap for a second and third variant so it can change color from yellow to red as health drops. It's nothing like the Thief system where each health shield directly represents a hit point.

The trick to doing non-bar type health indicators is that each successive health bar bitmap is exponentially wider. For example in the Vague Health Bar mod, it displays "Critical" at low health without being visibly cropped on the right because that bitmap is 1024 pixels wide, but it's entirely transparent except for the text on the left. So even at 10% health, the left ~100 pixels will still be there. Sure, if you managed to whack a Rumbler down to exactly 1 HP you'd probably see it get cropped a bit, but for the most part it works.

If an enemy has more (or less) than the usual health (due to Enemy Health Randomizer), will it have more hearts or a longer healthbar (in the minimal version)? Or do 3 hearts represent 100% health of this specific enemy?

The Heart one is giving me Zelda vibes. :) I also like the emoji one.

I didn't want to bump an existing mod topic to say this, but seeing as this is now current, I want to give a massive thank you to ZylonBane for over a decade of lovely mods. It seems like every little quality of life upgrade mod I stumble across is yours, and your contributions have greatly improved my enjoyment of this already classic game.

With all that said, "Vegan" is the pinnacle of your modding career.

Updated the first post with an improved version of the Vague Health Bar (better looking font) and added a few more.

I actually think the vague health bar thingy would be cool to have for the player it self.. but well if it aint possible then thats just how it is.. :)

And even if it could be done, it would be an incredibly stupid thing to do.

It's not possible to remove the number on the health indicator (at least, not without removing all other on-screen text).

Will you do this sort of thing for the Player health?
