Even without modding that's probably the best argument in favor of changing it. 'Hey we found a bug and fixed it, but legally people can't use the patcher we made.'

Voodoo47 notified me that the current English GOG version of SS2 contains a corrupt Data\res\snd.crf.

Good to know those tech ninjas did such a good job fixing things, eh? *sigh*

Most likely they were handed the game with this unexpected and rather hard to notice error.
