thought so. as I've said, it would probably be better to use the orig picture instead of resizing the one from the zip.

btw, I chose the current earth size purposely - made it just big enough to look nice when viewed from the first station room.

I've cut out only the Earth with atmosphere halo, resized the layer to fill the picture as much as possible, used fading transparent vignette for the halo to blend smoothly with the remaining space... see direct comparison...

Now maybe you are referring to some other original texture source that is unknown to me... but the new texture looks pretty hires in game anyway. It is still png as I have no knowledge to work with dds textures.

did you use the original earth screenshot? it's extremely hires, so using it  would be preferable to just resizing the currently existing one.

I loved the Earth texture on orbital station but I could not get past the feeling how far the Earth is considering we are orbiting it. I have rescaled it on the original texture and uploaded here along a screenshot as bigearth.7z - single texture only - you need to put in on top of the full package.

Join usss! -> Yes, some rules in the game are changed, I think some people just want to play the game with the original balance.

voodoo47 -> Awesome :D can't wait !

By the way, ADaoB is not the original game, it's a different balance, I think people just doesn't trust balance mods that much.
I must admit that I doesn't trust balance mods that much either.

The fuck?

A rhetorical question btw.

yeah, it's SCP - Shock Community Patch, basically the continuation of ADaoB. coming soon™.

And to anwser the 20.000k download topic, it's clearly due to modding guides that post links to downloadable mods.

Hey voodoo47, just installed that and it looks nice :)
by the way, i saw you teasing a environement lightmap mod on another thread if i'm not wrong, you were saying you were close on finishing it.
Do you think you can release it in the upcoming days ? SS2 shadows really needs an improvement...

can't disagree with that.

True, yeah. Maybe because it's small and a no brainer, unlike ADaoB? No idea. People are weird.

still, 20k is insane. ADaoB 3.0 does not have 20k downloads, and it has been available for a bunch of years now.

Marketing. It probably was recommended in some guide on GOG or Steam and there's even a picture to back it up. And it is a good mod after all.

The Shnup mod on the other hand was also recommended in some guide (not here). And despite that it's in my opinion a disgrace to the excellent original SS2 GUI, the mod gained hundreds of downloads after that. Because it's all Matrix and shit, I suppose.

actually, let me fix that - uploaded the original Station level modified to load the earth texture, for the pleasure of all ADaoB haters out there.

btw, can someone explain to me how the heck can an insignificant mod that adds one texture to a place that is viewed by the player for maybe 3.5 seconds for the entire duration of the game have 20k downloads?

It's required because only ADaOB has the version of the space station map that's been modified to make use of it.

Hello vurt and voodoo47,

I'm pretty sure I installed the earth png without installing ADaoB and all seems to be working. So my question is why exactly ADaoB is required?

Thank you!

basically, if you install ADaoB and both the png and dds versions of space, you will get the png space on earth and the dds space in the rest of the game. as for the differences, see vurt's last post.

Just for quality? Should be PNG since it's lossless.

All a bit confusing... which is best for quality? Png or dds? I've got the space one from other thread. DDS I believe.

I now have ADaoB and want the texture. But already have the dds space textures. If I overwrite with png from here will I get better quality space along with the earth?

yeah, hackity hack copy copity paste as usual, but hey, whatever works. I still have the earth texture somewhere with the outer glow already done, maybe I should attempt to add it to the dds version as well. I'm a bit uncomfortable when working with unfamiliar texture formats though, and gimp seems to dislike it a bit as well (warnings when attempting to save. plus I don't know what kind of compression should I choose).

.dds have mipmaps and compression, main reason why its used in most games. .png probably looks a bit better (but more aliasing because of the lack of mipmaps). You'll always see the original image and not any of the lower res mip maps, in return it will take up more vram than a .dds.

Also, i did not do the nice earth texture here, full credits too voodoo for that one :)

this is the classic vurt's hires space that has been released for DDFix, converted to pngs with the Earth texture added (you have to be either using ADAOB or SCP, or the station map attached to this topic, else the Earth texture will not show up at all). do note that a newer version of the space textures is already out, but someone might still prefer the png version (probably a bit less taxing on the gpu), plus the earth texture only exists in the png version (for now).

load with the modmanager just like any other mod.
