Tracking new posts

°SMA While hopefully everyone can find new posts on our forum, there are different ways to do this. I'll show these here and explain how they work. This will be linked in ABOUT#Unusability.

General

• Tracking new posts is limited to registered members.
• Listings show new posts/topics since all time.
• [NEW] markers show if posts were added since your last visit to that board/topic.
• When using multiple browser tabs, lists and markers easily become inconsistent. Reload tabs to update.

Finding new posts through the top menu
In the top menu you can check for new posts or for new replies.

• "Posts" lists all topics with unread posts.
• "Replies" lists all topics with new replies, that you have posted in yourself.

On the mainpage: The board index
The board index is divided into categories, like "Community" and "File Archives". 

• A "New Posts"-marker will appear to the right of a category's name, if there are new posts in its boards since you last visited them.
• The spinning marker left of the board name lights up and rotates, if there are new posts since you last visited this board or any topic in that board. Clicking the wheely always lists all topics with unread posts in this board.
• At the end of the board index is the "Mark all read" button. If you just registered it's useful to click this once.
• At the end of the mainpage is the "Recent Posts on SMA" box. It shows the latest topics with new posts from all boards. This isn't filtered by read/unread status, just like RSS Feeds.

Inside a board
A topic in a board is marked as NEW if...

• ...you never visited the topic.
• ...there are unread posts since you last visited this topic.
• ...a post was changed since you last visited the topic. Unlike with new posts this does not bubble up to the spinning / "New Posts" - marker on the board index.
• After visiting a topic its [NEW] marker on the topic index is removed, regardless which page of the topic you read.

Inside a Topic

• Posts in a topic are marked as NEW if they were added or changed since you last visited the topic.
• Navigating inside a topic via the page navigation does not remove NEW markers on posts, but reloading does.
• Clicking the "Mark unread" button inside a topic kicks you back to the topic index and marks all posts in that topic as new.

I left out email notifications for new topics ("Notify" button inside a board) and for new posts ("Notify" inside a topic), because they are fairly self-explanatory.

This is a good place to report problems with posts tracking you had or to make suggestions.
