Did GOG ever end up giving credit for the user mods installed in their SS2 release?
They did: http://www.gog.com/news/mod_spotlight_system_shock_2

Has anyone other than myself emailed NightDive asking for their plans and if they plan on actually crediting the community efforts at keeping the franchise alive and playable?

I have reason to believe y'all are in for a treat. That's all I'm gonna say for now ;)

First this, and now such mysterious prediction? This could mean either a very good thing, or (knowing the majority of current publishers) a total disaster.

No, I don't work for Night Dive  :P

So why make the statement then, working on a new mod?

hi ..

could make an SSP "installer" or "patcher"?, so if anybody which has original SS (or gog, or steam, etc) it could "read" content files, patch it and install SSP?

this way we actually wont "download" any game content ... you dont distribute them, just publish an utility you wrote yourself, and i believe they cant censor an application you wrote ..   this workaround is common with emulator firmwares, game files, etc .. even is used here with ss2tool

I just found this site, and of course I'm too late..  sigh...

Yeah me too, I only just got a DOS emulator working and half the reason I went to all the trouble was to play System Shock 1. Now I have to wait god knows how long T_T... Oh well, at least I've still got Arena and Daggerfall to play

it won't be too long - I'm already looking into things.

Yea pretty sure you have a higher priority than me on getting a response seeing as I emailed them last month for details and nothing, not a 'can't confirm or deny', flat Nothing.

Has there not been any official, open announcement on the 'net about Night Dive Studios obtaining the rights, or about GOG (or whoever) making the game available for purchase sometime in the (near) future? If I worked for ND/GOG/etc, then I'd want to publicise the fact.

I can see both sides of this. IP has to have a value as a commodity or it's much harder to finance games, which if anything makes investors even more risk adverse. It's not clear it'd be better for gaming if IP lost its value.

But this new era of digital distribution, especially where official and fan contributions get mixed in, has evolved faster than regulations or norms to deal with it, so you get this kind of perversity. Sounds like the kind of thing New Media Rights works on. They were the ones helping us on the Dark Mod with clearing all the rights issues. The community are players now, so it's understandable it should get some protections for its contributions too.

Incidently, do we know what Marnetmar's good news is now?
