This mod will automatically convert 35% of all pipe hybrids (existing and spawning) into pistol hybrids. Load the mod with the modmanager and activate, ideally before starting a new game.

- mod compatible with any SCP or vanilla mission, fan missions as well (activates automatically for all that are supported)
- default hybrid pistolification rate is 35% (can tweak the number easily, edit gamesys.dml, find FailChance="65", and set the value as you prefer - lower number means more pistol hybrids)
- hybrid pistol has muzzle flashes, and ejects brass (SCP and compatible)
- deals 3 points of damage per shot
- pistol hybrid has a 10% chance of spawning a 6 bullet clip as loot
- one bullet loot guaranteed
- lootable jammed pistol fully working (one potential issue here - if a mission is spawning a fresh pistol in some setup, that pistol now will be jammed. no way around this, and I'm 99% sure no SS2 mission, vanilla or otherwise, actually does this).


SS2tool patched SS2 install required (if you have patched your SS2 install before 14 march 2021, you need to run the tool in the update mode to get the latest NVscript). The Rebirth version also requires Rebirth to already be active. Secmod support is experimental.

Can you make it so they have to reload? I don't mean an animation, just a fire pause and the according reload sound. Maybe some annoyed grunting on their part. That would be tops.

uurgh, I think I could, but the amount of NVscripting involved would be.. substantial. also, not much sense in implementing, as there is almost no way the hybrid is managing to run out of the 12 bullet clip before getting killed.

similar issue with the shotgun hybrid, it technically has an infinite clip, but nobody really notices as there is pretty much no way the hybrid will live long enough for anyone to notice.

doable, but would have to implement it for the shotgun hybrids as well to not create a discrepancy. I don't think I want to go that way.

also yeah, doing the proper pistol firing sound via dml is going to be a pita and half. //that part was actually very easy.

This is probably offtopic as well but I'm just going to throw it against the wall:

Can you check if the hybrid is in the player's view (or vicinity) and then very rarely have it shoot itself dead?

This is to support the split personality hybrids are exhibiting ("Kill me!"). The human mind caged in a hybrid's body might occasionally get the upper hand and end its miserable existence.

How's a 50% chance of spawning in place of a Shotgun Hybrid instead of spawning in place of a Pipe Hybrid sound? Also are you making a new texture for the pistol variant? If not I recommend reusing the Shotgun Hybrid's texture / model instead of the Pipe Hybrid. I think it would go really well with the Shard Hybrid mod.

Nvm I was mistaken and thought the Shard Hybrid used the Pipe Hybrid's model :\

right now, I don't really know, I have a certain setup in mind, but I'm thinking Dark will not like one part of it, will have to check and see. if not, I will have to do it the hard way (editing spawn points on the maps, not terrible, but not great either).

standard shotgun pipe hybrid skin will be used.

A rumbler with a tiny pistol would be as adorable as pointless. I don't actually want it, but the idea of the hulking monster and it's dainty pistol was kinda cute

prototype ready, confirming mod is doable. now only to find out whether spawning can be smart (50% chance to auto-convert a pipe hybrid into a pistol hybrid upon spawn), or dumb (modify mission spawns manually).

also geez, looking at the RealSG scripting that had to partially be copied onto the pistol hybrid, I really do like to overengineer things. I should go build super-weapons next time a dictator comes around and help them lose the war.

first beta is up. an astounding amount of screwery has been pulled off to make this work without touching the mission spawns.

quickly checked medsci1, everything seems to be working. RealSG should be compatible, the xmas stuff probably not. new pipe hybrid spawns, but also existing pipe hybrids have a 50% chance to convert to pistol, so be prepared. deals 3 damage per shot (sg hybrid does 4), 10% chance of 6 bullet standard clip as loot. no lootable single pistol bullet yet, and the lootable broken pistol is a non-functioning placeholder.

this is supposed to mirror the shotgun hybrid, so yeah, the final setup will have one guaranteed bullet and a chance for a small clip.

what probably interests me the most right now is the conversion rate - is 50% chance of converting to pistol on ALL pipe hybrids too much?

i haven't tried it out yet, but imho i think it is too much..

maybe 35% chance for shotgun hybrids & 15% for pipe hybrids would be right.
