Misc things i've decided to retexture. More will be added.

Note - this is UNFINISHED/OBSOLETE stuff! do NOT use unless you know exactly what you are doing!

To get smoother looking explosions paste the following into your gamesys.dml (thanks Blaydes!):

thank you vurt seems passable but every time i frob it i get the right click menu from windows and it runs down my screen like necklace inlaid with honey and the floor starts to cough and twist. 

few suggestions:
1.  the font for security is not quite identical - although it has more solidity than original it does not have that 'systemy, system font authority.'  i recommend papyrus.
2. bamboo.
3. tweaking the embossments would make the fidelity a lot more rotund - it seems like there are some fine, shallow grooves in the original that seem to pop out in yours.  if you were to commit further to the original vision of the door a good thing to door would be to go into the editor and change the material properties and animation of the door so it could bulge and smother the player in a thin fog like a guillotine blade made of charcoal.  it would add a specific tension in the same way a loud, heavy sigh can unfurl a rug.

I get the part about the font, yes i might change that to a more similar style. Though i'm not really trying to make an exact replica of the original, just something similar.

The rest i dont understand, i guess you're using google translate, it doesnt work that well for some languages.

Silly question.  What does "frob" mean?

its not a silly question.  frob just means any way of interacting with inanimate object without touching your actual hands to it.  so when you place your hands on a table, palms open, with an object between them like your phone or a dictionary or your checkbook or whathaveyou and it starts to rapidly rotate in place, you have just 'frobbed' it.  long time shockers call this the frob whirl.  there are some interesting youtube videos of people glitching out whole cities with this kind of non-interactive interactivity, the most famous being in 2009 when a group of shockers rotated columbus ohio forty five feet in the air, and lost it to a strong wind. in fact sociologists have suggested this activity is a fundamental organizing basis of human community in general.

thank you for response vurt, i hope you will continue.  i think if you read my response less carefully your sense of it will build like easter island. please do not sit too firmly in judgement of me or my suggestion or this will be good way to chafe!

EDIT: For some reason, I can't make this work. I see the same "type" of security door as in the pic but it shows as the old style. Anything I might be missing?

No idea. I checked to be sure, the original sec.pcx is placed in \obj\txt16 - same as my .dds version. Should work. You do have the new patch installed? Maybe you have a mod that overrides it (if you're using a mod manager).

I even installed your mod with the Mod Manager :) I don't know whats wrong. sec.dds is in the right place, right next to the pcx version. I even converted it to tga and png just to be sure. No change. All other textures from you are working fine.

Possibly relevant: SHTUP replaces the model for that door (basically splits it in half so that it could have a virtual 256x512 texture). So that may be why Vurt's texture isn't showing up.

Can't check since at work right now, but try searching for anything with "sec" in the filename. It's probably "secdoor" or something like that.

door_s1.bin uses sec1.pcx and sec2.pcx. That must be it.

Yeah, that's it!

But know that I finally see it ingame...it does not fit to the rest of the ships textures. Nothing else on the Van Braun is rusted...and the extreme amount of detail does not fit to the sleek walls....imo

This touches on a fundamental problem that all SS2 graphical mods have to deal with-- Irrational dealt with the low resolution textures of the time by employing a very flat, clean, stylized visual aesthetic. It was a smart move, and is why the 128x128 corridors of the Von Braun still look tolerable even today. But it poses a problem for those of us who want to upgrade the textures. How do you make a flat, monocolored expanse of wall more detailed?
