“Paris Blues” traveled a long and winding path to its release, taking on a mythic quality among Doors’ fans along the way. An original blues song written by the band; the track was recorded during one of the band’s recording sessions for either The Soft Parade or L.A. Woman (no one seems to remember). The master tape of the song was lost and the only surviving copy was given to Doors’ keyboardist Ray Manzarek. Sadly, this copy was partially damaged by his son Pablo (a toddler at the time), who recorded over a few short parts. Now, through some creative editing, the song has been rescued from obscurity for the new album.

The Mastodon user interface behaves mostly like Twitter. But there are major differences when it comes to the network, which is federated. Meaning it's privately managed servers, that communicate with each other through the ActivityPub protocol. In reality this means there are some major general servers and many smaller ones for interest groups or places, ie I'm on the server of my hometown: https://social.cologne But I can follow people on any server and message with them.

The ActivityPub Protocol actually connects many different types of server, beside Mastodon, eg there is an instagram-type and Gnu-Social and Friendica, and a Reddit-clone, etc. Together they all make up the "Fediverse". Compatibility is sometimes only so-so, but messaging always works.

Mastodon is being developed by a German guy from Jena, therefore the German population is relatively sizable compared to other networks.

Now for the downsides:
You generally don't see content from other servers outside your own instance, unless you or someone on your instance is already following them. And conversely the rest of the fediverse generally doesn't notice you.

Due to servers being privately run there's always the chance to get banned, or your server going down permanently. Allegedly Mastodon makes it easy to move to another instance. But it's not actually moving, more an account switch. You lose all your previously posted content and all your followers. The only thing you can take with you is the list of people you follow.

Mastodon is very small compared to other social networks, a lot less people. Generally they're very friendly, but also happy to block you if you say things they don't like. Controversial discussions are rare (and usually end with blocks). Content and communication tends to be on the superficially friendly side of things.
Large parts of the American population are extremely involved in identity politics. Germans tend to be more relaxed.

Sadly the last episode of this excellent format in which a guest artist picks an environment and a friend to do a day of field recording of whatever they feel like to then produce a song or track back with it in the studio, with or without the help of the very skilled host "Nisse"). Usually mixed up with some interesting talk about their lifes and carreers and plenty of intereting producer tidbits. Quite uniqe, authentic and I really was a huge fan of it. Started out as an experimental thing by Fynn Kliemann and his Kliemannsland-project but soon developed into a standalone project without him.
