I've actually been there in 1997. The guys who organized and hosted this and pretty much the entire regional scene, including a weekly radio show on the local free radio (meaning non-commercial, member and donation funded) and a fairly well respected label are still active. It all started out in 1994 with a longstanding series of Jungle parties ("Bassment for the Basement", sometimes with multiple toasters) in the basement of an autonomous youth club (meaning veeery relaxed rules and somewhat limited access for authorities) that also was home to a serious Roots and Dub-Soundsystem culture, as well as some legendary Goa parties over entire weekends and of course many punk concerts too. The crowds had lots of overlap so you could say that it was a real melting pot for scenes and genres.



From my personal perspective, this Jungle/DnB scene started to seperate itself a bit from the rest, both in terms of venue as well as from the other crowds when Jungle faded into DnB. The whole thing took on a different, slightly more "grown up", arguably a darker and more introspective vibe. While I kept visiting and enjoying many DnB parties, I prefered the previous Dub/Ragga infused Jungle era with it's jolly DIY-attitude. It was just a warmer, happier energy.

An old friend Mickey Wilson has made some electronic music but only heard a bit of it.

I know a few others but that is the main stuff from what IK off the top of my head

Essential Guide To Cosmic Baby (1992-1994)
I originally learned about Cosmic Baby, a classically trained musician, through his more introspective 1994 album release "Thinking About Myself", so right where this video ends. I was 14 or 15 by then and still find it's one of the most important albums for my personal musical socialization. I also think most of his releases aged quite well, although he very understandably lost interest in the (more and more commercialized and formulaic) Trance scene, just a few years later.

icemannYeah, it's pretty good! Dâm-Funk has been around for a while already and his stuff always has this signature cool vintage 80ies sounding yet modern aesthetic to it. Kinda hard to put in a drawer but often more on the "black music"-inspired side (funk, disco, R&B, g-funk, MPC-hiphop) then the more purely electronic stuff. But there certainly are links to house too. And Vaporwave. Good fit for Stones Throw.

The song you've posted was released in 2015 btw.

I often edit in additional tracks later on, instead of creating new posts each time because I don't want the thread to get bumped up too frequently. As far as I can see, this works as intended, meaning that the last bump (before today) was 4 weeks ago but the post received several subsequent edits with new content.
