A reasonable number of people agree that this is a problem.

Secmod requires you to hack the security terminals in order to stop the alarms, which I feel is slightly too harsh given that you'll be essentially immobilized while enemies endlessly spawn and can bonk you with impunity, but plenty of people seem to like secmod so there's obviously merit to this approach.

I don't really think being able to easily disable the alarms is a big problem. It might seem that way on medsci where a security terminal is 5 steps away, but on later decks, being able to disable security easily at a terminal isn't really that significant because there might only be 1 terminal in the entire level, and it could be quite a distance away.

In my opinion, the far bigger problem is how easily security can be bypassed in the first place. Cameras are weak and easy to destroy, and are rarely placed in hidden or hard to find spots. If a a camera does surprise you, you have a very long time to blow it up before it sets off the alarm (I think it's about 3 seconds), so cameras rarely trigger alarms in the first place. I know of multiple play throughs where people have not set off a single alarm (except maybe once when they first discover the mechanic), not because they are actively careful of alarms or are veterans, even first-time players rarely set off alarms just because of how forgiving and easily destroyable the cameras are .

There's a reason why there's several mods to address cameras, because their vanilla implementation is very very bad. If you're interested in more difficult security, I recommend either Alarming Cameras, my very own Security Overhaul (alternate version), or the harder security minimod for SCP (only the minimod makes security terminals require hacking, the others address cameras in other ways).

.. being so easily disabled by simply right clicking a security terminal..

It has always annoyed me. Was this really the intend? It just seems too easy to disable the alerts. In turn it makes the cameras a non threat really.

I believe I've seen a mod somewhere that removes this "feature".

And maybe its not even that big of a deal anyway. I mean new players dont know where the terminals are, so its not like it renders the security alerts indifferent to them the same way it does to veteran players.
