Hello! I've just begun a new play-through, and I wonder why the HUD is partly english in my Deutsch-patched game. I tried different variations of the mod order, but still am no expert. Any ideas?

I think this is pretty much a feature - the tool converts the DE version into an EN version and loads the translation on top, so unless the translation includes translated hud textures, you will get the english ones.

I'm pretty sure, that the german version of the game was always completely german. So if the Deutsche Übersetzung 2.3 mod is complete, it should restore the german version, as far as I understood it.

That's very strange, could the archives have changed recently? In my "Deutsche_Übersetzung_2.3", the necessary iface files are all there, i.e. TECHNIC.PCX which translates the tech skill menu. Works on my machine. :-/

Post the usual logs, maybe there's something funny going on there.

Edit: Your mod setup looks funny, anyway. Why are the (animated) wall signs SHTUPed up but the broken door is still low-res?

Yeah I already thought something was broken, since a few textures were vanilla and I thought that's too many to be the few missing ones from shtup.
Sorry, what's the usual logs again?

object fixes way too high. it's SCP all the way down, then obj fixes and SHTUP, never break that order of those three for any reason.

still doesn't explain the english hud though.

SS2Tool indeed first turns the game into an English version and then downloads a mod that localises the game to German.*
This automatically downloaded mod is named "Deutsche-Uebersetzung" (no version number). It includes the German HUD textures.
I assume that you downloaded Deutsche_Übersetzung_2.3.7z in order to "upgrade" but it's the same mod, same version. I think your problem is the "Ü" you now have in the folder name, which the mod manager or the engine cannot deal with. Try renaming the folder.

*This is done so the translated resources can be overwritten by other mods, eg HD textures, if the user wants to. Otherwise German resources would always overwrite any mod.

nice catch - yeah, special characters are not supported, and will cause problems (not loading anything from that folder, if memory serves).

What are you talking about? I have zero problems with special characters, at least on Win10. On an ancient OS maybe, I don't know. Linux could be problematic as well because of the unicode bit swap.

it might depend on local stuff as well, but one way or another, just don't do it.

You three are a great help, even though it still doesn't work! I now renamed the Deutsche Übersetzung to Deutsche Ubersetzung, and changed the mod order, but the problem still persists. logs and screens attached! It is Linux by the way.
In one of the screens you see the vanilla german lowres version of ACHTUNG. Putting the Deutsche Uebersetzung right below SHTUP at least fixes that, but the HUD is still partly english.

I have checked the files, and if you don't have the DE interface, it means that IFACE from Deutche Ubersetzung 2.3 is not getting loaded.

try to disable all mods but the translation, and shorten its foldername (DeutschU 2.3 for example, or maybe even DU 2.3).

With all mods disabled and DeUe_2.3 activated it still has the same problem. Half german and a lot of textures looking better than vanilla, even though no mod is active. WTH.
Edit: Now I've just fucked it more up by reinstalling wine. The sound doesn't work any more, OpenAL in Hardware not available any more. Zzz.

try setting the install up on a windows machine, and see whether you'll get the same problems.

posting the logs would be a good idea.

I don't have one any more. I'll reinstall with Steam, if that doesn't work, I'll probably reinstall with CD. Last time I played it through was also on Linux and I had no major problems in the end.

I'd perhaps try a manual install - get a DE build of your choice, apply 2.47 GOG/steam (AND the DE install.cfg), the modmanager, and start loading mods. see whether you'll get better results.
Re: SS2 Deutsch-patched has partly english HUD

For whatever reason, reinstalling worked. This time I set the game language to german before installing through Steam. That way the Kolyatool downloaded the deutsche uebersetzung automatically. I shortened the names of every mod, and now the hud is completely german. Magic.
@Kolya You said that the version downloaded by the tool is the same as in the mod page? maybe you could add a version number to the one downloaded in the tool, and shorten the name a bit. Who knows what did the trick in the end.

Your path to the game might be too long.
Consider moving the game folder to a shorter path.

The name of the translation mod is hardcoded in the tool, therefore no version number. It's a bit of a special case as most users never need it.
665c94777e4f1
I highly doubt it's the path length. It's like H:Games/Systemshock2/

hard to tell, the linux/wine territory is fairly uncharted as far as SS2 is concerned. all we can say for sure is that all the general recommendations still apply - short paths, no special characters anywhere, keep the resolution the same as your desktop, don't drop mods directly into the root folder, don't force anything via your gpu's control panel etc.

Seems you have/had duplicated folders, or at least the manager thinks so. Assuming the archive itself is not corrupted, my money is on a conflct between case-preserving vs. case-sensitive file systems on Windows and Linux, respectively. Could be a feature, could be a Wine or SS2BMM bug, or an issue with the archive extraction.

665c94777e7f3voodoo47

665c94777e842
yes, pretty sure the engine and the manager do not expect two folders with the same (from their point of view) name to exist at one location, and I'm almost sure this has been causing the issue. will probably add the info to the FAQ in some way.

665c94777e9c0
So is the archive itself generating these duplicate folder names?

For as long as SHTUP has existed, I've always banged all the path and file names down to lowercase, for consistency and to potentially avoid weird issues like this, though it's not really a problem under Windows.
