for whatever reason, the bulkhead door to Med leads to my desktop. now i haven't touched the game in 6 years, but don't tell me that's normal! anyway, i uploaded some screenshots of my load order, please look at them carefully, they are hard to.. upload? nah.

EDIT:
well i didn't do much of anything, but the issue seems to have resolved itself. at the time of the ctd i was couch-gaming (steam link + steam controller combo), so the game actually crashed to big picture mode. booted the game now through bmm, worked fine, then i tried steam link again, and this time it progressed through the loading screen. false alarm.

gotta catch 'em all, eh?

ye beware of some of the lower than ideal quality stuff (shutter shock being a fine example, nobody really knows how that is going to stir the soup up).

What the heck is the shutter sthock mod?

indeed, the shutter shock thing ("Rec1 and Rec3 levels with opened shutters and blast doors") is without a screenshot/comparison. i activated it on a whim, unknowing what to expect. might just disable it after all. thanks for the heads up. btw can we just stop and admire how terrible that new crate looks? as if it's just got de-detailed.
and yeah, i grabbed all the mods off the mods page, i even wanted to ask if there's any more QoL content maybe in Enginnering or SS2 General (e.g. Vurt's misc stuff like new explosion float around somewhere there, marked unfinished/obsolete, but still) worth looking into?

oh yes, that crate's a doozy. too bad I lost the "wow such release" Doge texture I made for it - it really made it look much better (kinda speaks for itself). the epileptic Xerxes is a real killer as well (possibly literally, if you suffer from the condition). basically, consider everything from that topic stuff from an alternate reality where sanity and insanity are flipped around.

the shutter thing is great if you feel like the Rec deck needs more turrets in the face. and everyone loves a turret in the face, right?

aye aye, that Xerxes looks totally techno-pictorial, can't go without it!

oh man, i'm stupid. the screen.jpg in the post clearly shows what that mod does. i totally overlooked it. well it's an insta-delete then. thanks!  :thumb:
a slightly correlated question: does anybody play this game using the Reconstruction Machine instead of quickloading? it's such a cool concept, but it should be more akin to Bioshock's Vita-Chambers, so it doesn't make you pay a penalty (or, alternatively, it could burn your nanites as long as you have any, but never throw the player to the game over screen), it should just redeem the player from having to resort to mundane escape-to-menu-to-load/quickload, literally keeping you in the game. we need a mod to cover that!

unlike quickloading, QBRs are considered not immersion breaking.

now you are just saying what i was. 8)
my rationale is that QBRs should keep the player in the game loop indefinitely, regardless of nanites, thus the message "insufficient nanites to reconstruct", followed by the player thrown back to the main menu would never occur. that's why i suggested A. either no nanite cost for reconstructing or B. retain the 10 nanites burn for reconstruction, but at the event of dying with 0-9 nanites, the player would still get resurrected, they'd just have to go on butt-naked poor.

665c6497c43dbvoodoo47

665c6497c4429
no, because that would allow resurrection spamming (you whack an enemy with the wrench, resurrect, and repeat until everything is dead. this is an actual thing in Bioshock, so thank goodness for that 10 nanite cost).

well alright, that still leaves some room for option B. imho. imagine you are down to 9 nanites. if you die that point you won't be resurrected, you will be thrown back to the menu from where you'll just load an earlier save. that's fair and square, the player should have that option regardless, but if i could choose, i'd continue the game from the last QBR activated with 0 nanites and just be more careful.

you mention the exploit from Bioshock, but fail to see - or at least that's how it looks, sry if i'm wrong - how it makes sense from the game's logic that they don't recover health. while it's open for obvious game-y abuse, the fact that i'm kept in the loop by continuous existence is totally worth the side-effect.

665c6497c4623voodoo47

665c6497c466d
maybe, but it's kind of a moot point - the QBR resurrection is hardcoded.

...if i could choose, i'd continue the game from the last QBR activated with 0 nanites and just be more careful.
That doesn't make any sense. The QBR doesn't subtract nanites to punish you, it's using those nanites to resurrect you. No nanites, no resurrection.

I should post a mod that only does annoying, ugly, game-breaking things, just to teach people like this the error of their ways.

yeah, i was waiting for someone to point this out. part the reason why i was leaning towards the original idea - no cost.

assuming they don't read what the mod is about, unlike me. it's even visible in the shots that only compatible mods activated (a fraction of what's downloaded) in a - presumably - orderly fashion.
try harder, please

as linked earlier, we already have plenty.

I think we are only keeping them around so we could have these amusing conversations every once in a while.

The idea is that you can look at some mods and think "I can do better than that!".
