ss2tool error message

My fave game of all time.  Played it countless times, never had a problem with the ss2tool before
now the latest version gives me an error message that says "could not read ss2tool version force info"
This is above my pay grade; please help or at least give me a work around thanks

make sure SS2 is not in a protected folder, make sure the tool is not in a protected folder, disable firewall temporarily, reboot the computer and try again.

if that won't help, you'll have to wait for Kolya the toolmaster.

When SS2Tool starts it downloads a simple text file through a simple HTTP request that contains info about the currently released tool version and current game content version. This file download apparently fails on your machine.

There could be a lot of reasons why it fails. But a simple workaround would be:
Place SS2Tool in the game folder, if it wasn't already. If it was, rename the game folder. (This is to create a different path from which SS2Tool will start.)
Doubleclick SS2Tool and allow the 2 fire wall requests that will pop up, one for the tool itself (the aforementioned HTTP request), and second for rsync (which syncs the content).
