Hi all.

I've just installed SS2 for the first time - I downloaded an ISO of the original CD as well as a patched version. Whenever I try to install either version, the game refuses to even start loading and displays the error message "This product can not be installed on Windows NT due to Microsoft DirectX 6.1(tm) limitation"

I have -
HP Pavilion dv6700, AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2, 2.2 GHZ, 4 Gigs RAM.
Running Windows Vista (64-bit)

I've already tried -
- running using compatibility mode
- installing the SS2Tool (Patching Up)
- copying the files onto my harddrive

... Any suggestions? I've seen other people with this error message as well, but have yet to find an answer. Just an FYI, I'm not used to fiddling around with internal files, so I may need a slightly more detailed explanation.

Thanks everyone :)

Yes but.. then how do I execute it?

I'm sorry, I hate to be difficult. I just want to play this freaking game.  :D

Using Run or a command line.  Or creating a shortcut to the setup.exe somewhere and modifying it to add the switch.

Yes, figured that one out. Okay, now It's actually getting to the installing process, but there is another popup error:

"Failed to copy: C:\Users\Me\System Shock 2\shock\book.crf -> C:\Sshock2"

I thought it might be a problem with Vista being dumb, so I changed the installer to run as an administrator, but that hasn't helped. I changed around with where the file was being installed, no luck.

Any ideas? I've checked boards and no one else has seen this problem.

Does this happen during the install from CD?

See the SS2 Technical FAQ on how to install the game, bypassing the installation routine.
