Dang, my problem seems to be caused by the Widescreen mod and/or DDFix.  I really wanted to run SS2 in 1600x1200 :(.  Oh well.

There seems to be a small problem, I copied the "shock" folder and added "current" inside it.  Used SS2Tools 2.7 to patch it up, the patch fails to properly patch itself. (No multiplayer menu.)

However if you installed it via the installer and then patch it with SS2Tools it works perfectly fine.

Make sure that the files you copied from the CD aren't write protected. This shouldn't be the case if you're on an up-to-date WinXP system but it used to be a problem with Win98 and I think WinXP-SP1 as well.
