Hi all,
So I am having trouble running win 7 54 bit.
I followed the FAQ, copied the folder over (game it a different name though), installed SS2Tool, and Mod manager.
I currently have no mods set to work, and I tried Run As Administrator.
I get:

Problem signature:
  Problem Event Name:   APPCRASH
  Application Name:   shock2.exe
  Application Version:   1.0.0.0

Did you select all options in the SS2Tool? If not, which did you choose?
Also could it be a modified game?

This time, I didn't rename the folder, just let it be called SHOCK.
I used the bug fixes, patching up and widescreen (just avoided getting mod ready).
When I ran it as admin, it worked.  Got into the menu screen immediately (I forget, is the intro movie before the menu screen?)
Then I installed the mod manager, and installed SHTUP.
Failed to run, even when I tried the SS2 executable directly.
I deactivated SHTUP, but it still fails to run.
Do I need the "Get Mod Ready" part even if I am installing Mod Manager?

Working now.
I recommend adding a comment to the technical FAQ letting people know about the LGVID issue straight away, and a note in the SS2Tool install, specifically telling people to install the Getting Ready For Mods part, if you're going to recommend installing ModManager straight after.

Cheers!

Also, I am looking at apparent incompatibilities between
ADaoB and SHTUP
Arcaniac's Graphics Pack and Rebirth

Can these all go together, and if so, in what order?

Arcaniac's Graphics Pack is not compatible with Rebirth. ADaoB and SHTUP are compatible with each other and with Arcaniac's Graphics Pack and Rebirth. So basically you can install ADaoB and SHTUP and either Arcaniac's pack or Rebirth.
Also, SHTUP should be installed first.

Is there a recommendation about Rebirth vs Arcaniac?

If you really want to, go for Rebirth. Arcanic aimed to be more of a total conversion.

Hello all,

I recently discovered this board and I am hoping some people can help me out. I have having trouble getting System Shock 2 to work on a Windows 7 64bit system.
I install the game from CD (full install option). I install the game to the 'Saved games' folder.
I have installed the SS2tool and have no mods installed.
When I run SHOCK.exe, the following error come ups up:
"Please install DirectX 6 or later." As far as I am aware my system in running the latest version of Direct X. I have previously run Dungeon Keeper 2 which required Direct X 8.1
My system config is:
Toshiba U400 laptop
4BG memory
Window 7 Home Premium x64
T4200 processor (dual core)
Mobile Intel R4 graphics

I hope someone is able to offer some help on this as I'd quite like to play System Shock 2 again.

i've recently installed System Shock 2 on my new computer

Intel Pentium Core i5 520 (multithread)
Intel integrated graphics
Windows 7 64 bit professional - Upgraded as hell (with almost everything)

and having some trouble with playing, i've install no-cd, patch, and then SS2Tool_v3.0 every option even mod ready, and widescreen patch.

i see the menu, buttons, and intro movie, but then program scrashes with this text: "system shock 2 program stopped, because of problem, contact with producer" (or something like that, without numbers and anything)

i've even changed the name of LGVID.AX to LGVID.AX.BAK , only the video did not start

make sure you are not using some awful rip downloaded from the 'net, and use the latest ss2tool.

What voodoo said.
Also: leave out that nocd-patch, SS2Tool has its own. Reboot after installing the SS2Tool and then start the game as admin.

I have a similar setup, I just set SS2 up again for the first time in a couple years on this computer (which I haven't tried before), also Win 7 64-bit. Just let SS2Tool do almost all the work, run as admin, and don't even bother with compatibility settings. They're likely more harm than help.

And I for one figured that "Getting Mod Ready" would be a fairly obvious requirement before trying to use mods, even with SS2MM. :o It's not like anything SS2Tool does has any negative repercussions if you decide ultimately to not use any mods at all, just moves a couple files around and makes a folder IIRC.
