In case you missed it, our site got highlighted in a news item over at GOG: http://www.gog.com/news/mod_spotlight_system_shock_2

You may know that we had a slightly troubled start, when SS2 first came out at GOG, with changes from SS2Tool already applied. This has changed meanwhile, since their March update the GOG version only uses the New Dark patch. We have agreed to keep these things as they are, so that users can come here to get more updates and use mods. This news item reflects that and it's a nice gesture I think.

On a sidenote: The 80 character path limit is a limit of the game, that applies regardless of whether you use SS2Tool or not.

they should really consider updating to 2.42 though - the crash fixes and multimonitor support are well worth it.

Thats a nice move by GOG. While there has been inofficial acknowledgment before, in form of hundret of people as guests here in the days of the release in February, there is now a official acknowledgment for your (Kolya and others) hard work on this site. I hope that it brings some donations as well.

the game quickly became one of GOG.com all-time bestsellers
Wow, a 14 years old game kicks some arse! Still I would be interested in some figures. I imagine that there was a initial boom, but I would like to know ho the game did in the days and months following the release.

GOG is very slow when it comes to patches, Legend of Grimrock for example, a recent game, got updated about a month after the patch arrived for Steam or DRM free versions (which, coincidentally, also worked with the GOG version).

Nice post btw, lots of sweet-talk.

the relatively insignificant earth space texture mod that has been made available just a few days before the GOG release currently has almost 19k downloads. let's be conservative and assume that only 50% of GOGers that have purchased SS2 have downloaded the mod, and presto, we are nearing 40k downloads/purchases.

if I had to guess, I would say they are over 100k already.

With the game being at $9.95 at present that`d mean around 10 million in profit. Not bad. Wonder how much the original SS2 release got.
