Hello, fellow modders and shockers, SystemShock.org has received 50 free Steam keys for SS2 - if you were thinking about picking the game and starting to mod it, or wanted to check whether your mod works properly with the Steam version, or just are lucky enough to browse the forum at this moment, feel free to send me a private message (you need to be a registered forum member), and you will receive a free Steam key. The keys will be given out on the "fist come, first served" basis, until all the keys are gone.


Note: The only reason you need to register for this, is to establish a private way to give you your Steam key. We're a non-profit System Shock fansite and we're not after your private data. (more about us)

What do we need to know about the Steam release? Voodoo you mentioned it was a botched release and provided instructions to fix but it seems there have been some updates since if I am not mistaken. Anything I should know before I follow your instructions and delete those files?

the current steam build has been reworked completely and should work fine out of the box (instal, play, add mods, patch up with the tool, whatever). everything is in the steam FAQ.

What? I'd written  few blog posts grumping about the steam version being broke and my observations of said brokenness. I now want that version so I can test for un-broken state/compare against the gog version on how well it runs.

Steam version should be "tweaked" enough to be playable, but that's nothing SS2Tool would do... better.

But then, in a night club, when you approach a lady of your desire, which will seem hot because of your drunk vision compensation, and you use the line: "Hey listen, the other day I've got a SS2 steam key for free", it wouldn't be honest.
