So, me, my brother, and a friend of ours were playing the Steam version of System Shock 2 without mods today. Everything was going fine until we got to the first upgrade terminal in MedSci. Someone clicked a switch there and then everyone started an infinite loading screen. We had to End Task in order to exit the game at that point.

I remember this happening before, too. We don't have any mods installed, and we all have the Steam version. What is going on? It's pretty annoying! The logs don't really give any pertinent information, so it's hard to diagnose the cause.

Years ago, I played the game with just my brother, and very rarely, if at all, experienced any issues. Is there something different with more than 2 players?

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a connection loss to me?

We were all on a LAN, with wired connections.

the general rule with multiplayer is, the more players you have, the wonkier it gets.

I was afraid of that.

Are there any options that can be changed that might alleviate some of the issues, or is it basically: "Don't play with more than 2 people"?

nope. when playing multiplayer, you just fire it up and pray.

there is no such thing as perfection in this world.

Next time make a new "big" save before entering the bulkhead/elevator. Also there's a good practice to inform another player that you're about to leave the level.
