The good side to being a digital hoarder is that you tend to hang onto old files etc. I've kept a hold of every map (whether it be test maps, tutorials, maps from the one hour challenge held a decade ago etc) released on TTLG (that I know of anyway).

Attached to this post is a zip full of these maps. All it's missing is the 1 room a day challenge (where a different mapper did one room/hallway/section on a specific map each day. Got that on a cd somewhere.

Anyways. I've tested all the maps and portalized/optimized the maps that needed it. A few were worse off after the pathfinding was checked so I've left those maps as is.

Note that the majority are unfinished maps other than those within the "one hour maps" folder within the zip. Others are tests of a single element (ie making a replicator that spawns hybrids, a single room with a AI that does a specific task etc etc). Enjoy.

That's really cool. It is nice to see that there was a time when a lot of people made missions for the game or at least tried to do so.
I tried some maps, sadly most of them wont run for me in newdark. My favourite of the working ones is MIB at the moment.
While the elevator system in this mission can only be called absurd, you can see the efford that went into making the map (the bridge, the shuttle hangar). Maybe someone could use this as a base for the contest^^

They all work, though not all in newDark due to the file naming and other issues. I renamed a few of them to earth.mis then re-zipped them before uploading the archive.

Any without earth.mis in the filename run via ShockEd and they should run just fine. Just don't do any portalizing/pathfinding etc as a couple of them lose all of their level geometry for some odd reason if you do. In others the lifts stop working if you try to. Though bear in mind that these levels were made a decade ago (for the majority of the maps in the archive) when newDark didn't exist.

My personal favorites were the "One Hour" series of maps located in the "One Hour Maps" folder as the majority of those can be considered as small FMs as they can be beaten. Other than that there was one map called "Wrenches" which I quite liked.

If I come across any other old maps I'll update the archive. Already found 1 other map called "IonosFear's test level" which I'm testing now.

Quite a few of the maps have errors caused by sound brushes. Might fix those at some point since there quite easy to fix.

We already have Ionosfear's test level. For some reason it was in the modifications forum. I just moved it here.
I don't think it has been tested in New Dark, but Enchantermon put in access to the training levels so it works as a first mission replacement.

Ah nice. My copy of it had issues with newDark when you went to pick your career.

Zip updated with a couple of extra maps + sound brush fixes for the one hour maps (one of which had zero sound brushes on it in the first place).

I read the instructions, and tried installing the SS1 FM into my game, and it still puts me right back on the Von Braun. Why?

Use a mod manager. I prefer Blue's. Then, load the FM in it with top priority.

or maybe even use the dedicated FM loader; https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=6292.0

I used the FM loader that came with the Steam version of SS2. And before you ask, I did follow the instgructions on the Steam guide for installing/running mods.

not sure which guide (how about a link?), but anyway, if you launch the steam version of SS2 via the launch fan missions shortcut at least once, a FMs folder will be created in your SS2 folder. you will need to move/copy the extracted FM into this folder - for example, when installing the UNN Nightwalker, you will need to place the FM files under SS2\FMs\UNN Nightwalker folder. launch the game via the fan mission shortcut, the FM will be listed, double click it and you are playing. the manual activation works similarly, see here.

I feel a bit stupid to ask this but how do I play one of these levels? I know how to load an FM in the FMSel normally, but not with this pack.

just like any other FM, but do note that the unfinished levels may have to be loaded via ShockEd.
