Topic: Correcting Text For Crew Audio Logs Read 2129 times

During my many playthroughs of SS2, I've noticed some errors where the written text for the audio logs doesn't exactly match what is actually spoken by the crew members. Provided it's not overly difficult, I'm considering going through them all and correcting all the errors that exist.

How would one go about accessing the necessary files?

check out strings, but you really, really want to wait for the SCP version if you want to do this, else you are going to waste 90% of your effort.

Really voodoo47, you are about to change 90% of the strings, graphical texts on HUD and so on ?

You'd have to be a special kind of dumb to think that's what he meant.

Same feelings about you ZylonBane and i don't care about what you think.
> voodoo47 : i don't want to be rude, i ask you because i merely translated all graphical hud pelements and i just want to know if you're planning to change them - in such case, i will want the SCP to be released :)

Boys... boys! Let's all play nice, okay.

@ Primitive Primate - Thanks for the link.

@ voodoo47 - OK, I'll wait and see what changes the SCP makes in this regard. Thanks for the suggestion and time saving.

there have been many, many edits and corrections to the strings. anyone taking the currently available strings and fixing stuff would be just redoing what is most probably (90% chance, approx) already done. once SCP is out, he would need to compare and merge. hence, 90% of effort wasted.

as already mentioned, any effort to fix the currently available (orig) stuff is pretty much wasted, as you would be just reinventing the wheel (or rather, many, many wheels). wait for SCP, then we can talk about stuff, improve things some more, whatever. there is so much stuff to do that we could be doing this for the next five years and still not be completely done.

I'm kind of curious why you decided to try to do so much at once instead of putting out the SCP in smaller pieces. When I first found this site, I started reading through the archives, and I have seen post after post of someone talking about this glitch or that, or someone mentioning they might address some bug or another, only to be told that it is already being handled in the SCP.

Why not release the stuff that has been fixed, and then update as more things get finished? It's not like it is a rebalancing, where you have to get all the changes working in balance.

This is not a criticism, mind you, just wondering why you went with the fix it all before we release anything approach.

We have the audiologs here. They should match the spoken words.

To be honest, I only noticed this in the first System Shock. They say something, but the text says something else. It's similar enough to read along while they talk though, which I do due to my hearing difficulties.

I last played the SSP which has that fix but they still didn't show right.
Oh wait, I didn't activate it... Makes sense

it sort of just happened. like "look at that, we need to fix this before we release. and oh yeah, there is that thing too, gotta fix that as well. and this looks crappy, lets do something about that while at it" and this has been going around for almost a year now. anyway, it really shouldn't be long now, almost everything more time consuming and/or unresolved has been pushed to beta2, as long as the gamesys is ready and the maps have received some final tweaks, beta1 will ship.

How big in filesize will SCP become?

the zipped package should be around 30MB (maps, gamesys, some custom assets).

That's the link that I was using to do my spoken/written accuracy verifications. There are errors that presently exist, such as spoken words not written and vice versa. There are also some problems with pauses ("...") being used and not used.

With ALL due respect, the problem is that you've been in this same state of mind for nearly a year. Only way to avoid these ongoing delays from continuing ad nauseam is to choose and commit to a FIRM release date, if one doesn't already exist.

For your own sakes, you need to get the SCP out into the public and walk away from it for a while and recharge. Let the user's feedback accumulate and then gear up for the SCP beta 2 release. Going forward, hopefully subsequent SCP update releases will come at a far quicker pace.  XD

Now, back to my most recent SS2 save, at the start of the Hydroponics level !

On the one hand, yes. On the other hand, we're definitely not spiraling down into pointless minutiae. Significant fixes and some cool additions/upgrades are still happening at a rapid pace.
