Last time I tried to replay (with XP) it glitched and crashed, twice.
Steam, you (sometimes) rotten... so-and-so. </grumble>

I did get Diablo 2 (disc-based) to play nicely on this Win7 machine.

I haven't played Dishonored yet, but the consensus seems to be that it's a decent successor to Thief.  Better than the actual Thief follow-up we got from Squeenix.  Would most of you agree?  I want to pick it up at some point.

It's not a successor to Thief. The first time I played it I went in expecting this and it was a mistake, because my misguided expectations prevented me from enjoying the game as much as I could have. I guess you could say it has elements of Deus Ex/Thief/SS2 in a new game universe. But it deserves to be played for its own merits which are manifold.

I'd say Dishonored has similar elements to Thief (etc).
It's newer and *very* interesting, with some good twists.
There's also a 'karma' system that influences outcomes.
  (...go ahead, leave more bodies for the rat swarms...)
The occult bone charms are random each time.  Replay.
Cool story / artwork / atmosphere / gameplay / sounds.
If you like Thief (etc) you'll probably enjoy Dishonored.
...It is more 'mission/level'-based, but very well done.

Yes, I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
Also, talk to all friendly characters... =)
