im making a mod and want to base it on the new adoab project's .gam file but im unable to open it in the editor. i named it shock2,gam and placed it in shock 2 folder, and the data folder, data perm mods folder and the dmm folder and none of them worked. i also tried to use object hierarchy program and it was missing labels when i imported the shock2 labels meta file, so i cant use that either... how do i open it for editing?

you run SS2tool, install the editor, load SCP with the blue mod manager, run the editor and load any SCP map. the gamesys will get loaded as well. NEVER load a gamesys without an actual map.

and, as always, you should attempt to do the (gamesys) mod via a DML patch, as hard editing the gamesys will result in a mod that has very little compatibility.

then you are doing something wrong;

I think I had that error myself once. It was a wrongly set up ShockEd.
Just like voodoo said, use SS2 Tool and make sure to check the box to install the editor, that sets it up correctly.

i just did everything and opened a map in the dmm/scp folder and saved the gamesys without any changes and it is .02 megabytes smaller... shockscp.gam is 1,071,635 bytes, and new test save is 1,055,115... is this acceptable?
