SS2 did not do the same. SS2's Earth and Station maps both serve a specific gameplay purpose-- tutorials and initial character build.
Thanks for only reading the first sentence of that post and ignoring everything else. I already told you how a tutorial could be implemented into that playable intro. If RPG elements were in, they'd be handled the same, basically by letting the player configure his cyber rig before the operation.

You know, what if the intro were handled the opposite way, without there being an intro at all? So the game starts with the player waking up from the healing coma. It would be like having amnesia, slowly learning more about what led up to current events.

I wouldn't prefer it, mostly because the intro is one of the most awesome sequences in video game history. But it could make the game more interesting for new players. I bring this up because previous Looking Glass employees mentioned the idea in a video streaming of System Shock.

I don't get why you align the text of your posts off like that. Always throws me off a little when I see them.

It's not his fault for having to write his posts on a steam machine!

I really like the idea of discovering the hacker's backstory throughout the game. This would also make it connect better with the ending.

Could be worse still. Could be like I have to do and be on a cheap AND old machine.

Life is hard. But at least it can play System Shock, right? That's all that matters.
