Hey Leaf.  I hope you don't mind but I wanted to try putting goggles on this guy.  I wasn't expecting it to work but it looks like it's not broken yet so I'm delivering the goods as they are in hopes that I don't break it anymore.  Try compiling it and see if the skeleton is still intact and all the textures still work and everything.  I've included a screenshot of what it looks like.  Forgive the lack of smoothing.  I can't figure out how to enable it in Accutrans.

BTW the existing wires you have there worked just perfectly and by accident too.  They seem to terminate at the goggles and take care of the hard part for me (making some sort of arm for the goggles to come off of).  This way I didn't need to alter your existing textures at all.  I just deleted the eyeballs and put a couple of new goggle meshes in their place.

I had abandoned all hope of a better player model with goggles. Great job, RocketMan (and Leaf)!

Good point.  However I hope that camera lenses will be widely accepted since they are both functional and stylish....we can still call him Goggles.

Crap....I tried converting the mesh and it failed with some polygon errors.

Has anyone else had a go at converting this file?

NV do you have any ideas as to why 3ds2bin is folding on me?  Could it be because I deleted the eyes?

Exact error?

How did you get the file into .3ds format? If you converted .bin -> .e -> .3ds then the limit planes were irrevocably lost, and you can't rebuild the model without them.  You'd have to make them manually (doable, practically impossible) or steal them from another mesh and adjust them.

Damnit...now I remember that bit about the loss of data.  Ok, I'll deal with it.  I'm sure the original author has the mesh with the planes in it.

Woah! I had no idea anyone was working on actual goggles for Goggles.

Guess I need to be on here more often.

Rocketman, good job with the goggles! That model is trouble, though. I've tried multiple times compiling it with my own set of goggles, but to no avail. I wish I could help out, but all my SS2 stuff is gone and Arcaniac hasn't been really active last time I checked, so it might be difficult to contact him. I believe you can take some files from Thief 2 and get joint planes from them. I did that for my crowbar mod.

That's an option though it might be worth while to wait for Arcaniac since that would be a lot less trouble.

I tried it the cheap way by just editing the camera lense into the already existing gif with that special head.gif from the first posting.

The problem now is: How do I get rid of the eyes??
As it is now, it just looks like he's sporting some sort of eyeliner. Just like some sort of a goth-Goggles. Without goggles that is.

Other than that I'm very thankful for the alternate head texture. And the model itself is very nice! It finally fits into the rest of the updatet models and is nicely animated too, it seems. It did remind me of the michelin man at first sight though *g*
The original Goggles was just so sticklike in comparison somehow. By the way: Does the original Goggles remind anyone else here of the two guys from spy vs. spy, too?

Hi everyone!

After a long while, I've decided to make a newer player model, after realizing that the texture I made appears a little low-res and also, the whole goggles thing. I'm putting the texturing first, and I'll work on goggles later once I can figure out mesh building. The texture should be released soon; I can work pretty fast and I have nothing to do today or tomorrow :D

Yo leaf that's a long couple of days.  Where you at with this man?

Sorry I haven't been around. I haven't made much progress. I've been having a lot of computer problems. I just reinstalled Windows and I'm hoping that I can continue working on the model, but at this point it's not my top priority. I intend to restart my commentary series on YouTube as soon as I can.

um wat

I guess I either need to do a casting call or give up. Fantastic!

Too bad about the commentary.  Maybe you'll find someone to carry on where you guys left off?  At least there are no shortage of people who would be willing to play with you...that's good news I suppose.

Hope you get to the model at some point.  That would be really cool if you finished it.

If you all remember, I tried to add goggles to this model by editing the mesh.  This was of course pointless because I could not re-compile the model without the limit planes... so I gave up.  Then I realized I might be able to hack in some goggles by simply editing the texture and keeping the existing UV mapping.  Lo and behold, the result is not all that bad IMO.  Have a look.

All you have to do is download and install the mod on page 1 and then throw this texture in place of the one with the same name.

EDIT:  I think the texture gets stretched when it's texture mapped... the goggles look a tad thin.  I put another version of the texture with rounder goggles but I'm afraid my tampering is reducing the quality with every save... it's here anyway in case you prefer it.  Just delete the 2 from the file name before using it.

that texture looks good on the model  :thumbwink:

Played with it a little more.  I tried using goggles that looked more like the ones the original model sports (as opposed to these sunglasses style) but unfortunately, the model geometry itself makes the texture look stupid.  The cheeks for example make the UV mapping of the new goggles looks stupid because it distorts the roundness of the goggles.  The only way to improve the textures without touching the model is to use narrower goggles that fit into the eye socket, where the polygon curvature is more or less well behaved.

Try this:

The new textures for the goggles looks pretty fantastic in-game.  A "final touch" they would say. Excellent work. -w-
