Losing "use item" functionality in middle of play

New SS2 player.  While playing, I will lose some functionality of the "use item" button: I can still pick up items and search things, but I can't apply hypos (havent tried eating things from inventory) with  the "use item" button. When game first starts (or if i restart), it works again, but then goes away.

Windows 10

select item from inventory : left click
use item: middle click (mouse3)

using an item is usually accomplished by rightclicking it - have you remapped it to something else? if that's the case, I'd try to reset the controls.

running any 3rdparty mouse control utility, maybe?

i... dont know. i disabled one of them now.

voodoo47, i had originally remapped "use" to another key so i never tried to right click to use, and it worked when i restarted. the next time i actually play, ill see if right click continues to work for the same period of time the other way had stopped working. thanks for your help. looking forward to this.
