It seems the file WeiDU.exe from the widescreen mod is offending these scanners. I downloaded a newer version of weidu.exe and recompiled the SS2Tool and it came up clean on every scanner.

Maybe someone could check if the widescreen mod still works? Because I'm going to bed now.

Hey Kolya,
Just wanted to say thank you for the new version and the un-endeding devotion to this world-renowned classic.  8)

I finally replaced my Stone Age 19'' CRT with a 22'' widescreen and was eagerley looking forward to try the widescreen mod. So far (almost) everything works fine. DDfix is making trouble: I ran the SS2Tool only with Widescreen+DDfix enabled and the GUI version of DDfix did not let me choose the desired resolution (1680*1050 in my case). I had to modify the ddfix.ini but then the menu screen lag would still occur despite everything else behaving as it should do (I could even select a wide variety of custom reolutions in the options menu - that a recent gimmick? Neato). So I ran DDfix GUI again and this time, the program stated "Custom" as the applicable resultion.
After applying the fix, the menu lag was gone and with 1680*1050 still set in the options menu, I loaded a savegame only for the program to crash with a "Your video hardware is not supported by System Shock 2" error message. Ugh ..

But wait! I could think of nothing better than to blame it all on the SS2Tool (sorry, Kolya :p) and thus installed widescreen and DDfix seperately (first ws, then ddfix) by running the SS2Tool twice. DDfix got it almost right this time: Instead of choosing 1680*1050, it wrote "game_screen_size 800*600" to the cam.cfg. After correcting that mistake, SShock2 finally runs fine in widescreen mod using DDfix and having no menu lag.

Conclusion: Widescreen mod and DDfix combined with the SS2Tool seems a little bit like Russian Roulette to me, only without someone turning up dead. Possibly only related to DDfix?

Im having a problem, after I run the tool the intro & menu screens work fine, but when I try to start a game the screen goes black and nothing happens. The game is from a vanilla iso. Interestingly when i run the tool on a portable version of SS2 its starts and runs fine... until I complete basic training. Once I exit basic training the guides voice plays all over again- even if I enter advanced training. Would it be allowable if i posted a link to dl the portable version? TIA for any help.

Ted we need a few more details about your OS, graphics card, etc. And yeah, do not misuse the Report function to get attention or I will misuse some functions if you catch my drift. :)

I upgraded 2.7 with the new weidu.exe to prevent antivirus scanners jumping at the false positive. (details on this)
No functional changes were made, which is why I did not increment the version numbering.

Win Xp SP 2, Geforce 5 series (cant remember exact model, I will look it up), 1 GB ram, the interesting thing though is that the portable worked after I applied the tool. I'll get that other info as soon as I can, this is the first time Ive had access to a computer since I posted originally. thats why it took so long to respond.

You mentioned a crash after completing training.  That sounds like the current folder is missing from your installation.  There has to be a current folder in your SS2 folder.  It can be empty.

Problem solved(for both versions). The problem Im having now is that when I bind certain actions to certain keys, I can no longer drag objects in "use mode." It happens when I bind quick save to num-pad minus and/or quick load to num-pad plus. Any advice?

Try throwing use mode at the site search. It's the first hit.

I thought my days of SS2 were over when my old laptop started refusing to let me through bulkheads - but thanks to the crystal clear advice on this forum, and the absurdly brilliant modding tools, things are running like a charm on my new one under Vista and there's not many games from 1999 that I could say that about. The sheer enthusiasm and ingenuity of everyone here has made it possible for me to revisit an incredible gaming experience and I can't thank you enough!

Apologies if this counts as off-topic...

Random lurker here; just wanted to thank you kolya for the SS2Tool, I thought I'd never manage to get the game running again in recent computers, and in widescreen no less!

Vista SP1 32bit install guide, at least the method that worked for me

1. You need Combined Community Codec pack (install it)
2. Install System Shock 2 ( i used original cd not HOTU version)
3. Patch it with 2.3 patch
4. Install Rebirth Beta 1
5. Install System Shock 2 mod manager
6. From Manager install Shtup Beta 6
7. Then use Kolya's tool, install everything, then set desired resolution (i use 1680x1050)
8. Open cam.cfg with notepad, and set "game_screen_size 800 600" to "game_screen_size 1680 1050" (or resolution you want to use),
    and save document
9. Right click on SHOCK2.exe and set it to run in Windows 2000 compatibility mode
10. Right click on SHOCK2.exe and "run as administrator"
11. Play it

This method worked for me, i can see videos, no problem with sound, no problems with performance,
half way through the game and haven't seen any bugs or glitches.

Sorry to be so straight but this "guide" is so rubbish and lame it's obvious you had absolutely no idea how each of that program works and what it does..and you "guide" others to do likewise.

Few examples... 2.3 patch is already part of Kolya's Tool so why that crazy order of unnecessary steps? Why install Rebith MOD BEFORE MOD MANAGER? .....and..... why do you even "guide" people to install those mods? Are you sure they all want them? What "document" are you talking about? etc.

Just because you've blindly achieved to have no problems doesn't mean that it's a good idea to "guide" others to do absolutely all the funny things the same way as you did. And even then it may not work for all.
6666503261fc3
Hush Miracle, I'm sure he means well. But yeah we already have guides for all of that here which are a bit more sophisticated since they were written by the authors of these tools.

Posting here to thank for all the help I got from this and some other topics to get my SS2 running.

Doing everything mentioned here was not quite enough. Cut scenes would not work without a certain codex, but afterwards, everything worked perfectly.
SS2Tool install prob Vista 64 SP2 8GB

Hi,

first, thanks for this nice tool, really makes it easy to get SS2 running on new rigs.

I would like to report a compatibility issue with my spec upon execution of SS2Tool.
When i start SS2Tool_v2.7.exe, Windows basically says its a 16 Bit Application that cannot be run under a 64 bit operating system.

While I know that 64 Bit Windows cannot run 16 Bit applications, it seems to have worked for other Vista 64 users (according to some topics here and at ttlg). Has anyone else had this Problem?
Of course I'm still able to extract the exe with 7zip, so i could probably just install all the patches manually, but if there's an easy solution to this, it would be appreciated.

Ive already tried the following: Admin Account / Compatibility Modes / Reducing the memory to about 3 GB via msconfig.

My Spec:
C2D 2x3000 Ghz
8GB RAM
Vista 64 Home Premium SP2 (+ newer updates)

Thnx in advance for any ideas... (hope this has not already been adressed elsewhere)

Does this actually happen when you start SS2Tool or when you try to install DDFix?
And could you please give me the exact error message?

I'd have to burn something down if that ever happened. I don't know what, but it would be something, and it would burn.
