I've disabled my other monitor but it hasn't resolved the issue. I only have the one graphics card.

I've installed and ran all options on the SS2Tool and also installed the mod manager. If I just install the game by copying the SHOCK folder form CD to C drive it runs fine. I can play it by using the old fixes of manually disabling other cores etc. But I really wanna bump up the resolution and make it all pretty. Any ideas? As far as I know the SS2Tool has worked, it just leaves me with a black screen. It's functional - if I move the mouse I can hear the chirps of the buttons being touched. I can even blindly find my way to the exit option to get out of the game and back to the desktop.

In ddfix.ini try setting MenuUpdateDelay to 25.

You absolute beauty! All sorted. Video's play and then the menu appears. Now everything doesn't look warped and distorted. I can't thank you enough. You're awesome!

Now I'm gonna be sooooo tired in the morning. LOL!

If it helps place this issue, specs you might be interested from my system are:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz (OC'd to 3.4GHz)
Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5870
Asus P5Q Deluxe Motherboard
4GB (2x2GB) RAM

Not sure if this issue might pop up for other 5870 users!?

Thanks again. I wanna play through it first with classic models before I play again and use the Rebirth mod.

Glad it works. I've added this to the SS2 Tech FAQ.

I also consider making MenuUpdateDelay=25 a default with the next version of the SS2Tool, which will contain the latest ddfix release. However I'd need a few people to test MenuUpdateDelay=25 in two ways:
1. with vsync on, in their graphics card settings
2. with vsync off

I know MenuUpdateDelay is only needed when vsync is off, but in some cards you can't turn it on. And as always I'd prefer a failsafe setting that works for everyone. So what I mainly want to know is, if MenuUpdateDelay=25 breaks things with vsync on, on vsync capable graphics cards.

I tried it with vsync both on and off and nothing broke.

I shall try it tonight when I get home from work.

Also while I'm here (and I will search through the mods anyway at leisure when I get home) I was wondering if there are any mods that allow you to store goodies in crates/desks etc. I usually thrown everything in the lift so it's always on the same level, but it ain't half messy!

No, the engine doesn't provide the ability to fill containers and while I remember that Nameless wrote a container-script once, I think it didn't work correctly. Shoving all your stuff into the elevator can sometimes (rarely) lose an item, so maybe consider using a safe place on some level.

I'm no expert, but I'd have thought there'd be some way of achieving it. The player inventory, for example, is like a container. And containers themselves have items in for us to remove. Would it not be possible to have multiple inventories that are linked to containers? I'm just thinking out loud, I honestly have no clue how it could be done (if it can).
