So I had this plan to try and install SS2 on a Windows 7 comp long-distance.  In other words, I'm transferring the SHOCK folder with all its stuff to my friend who can then use SS2 tool to try and install it.

The problem is this; she doesn't have the CD.  So before I run into a snag, I need to know.  Is the CD necesssary to make the installation work?

If the CD is necesssary, I guess I'll need to find a torrent or something =Z

You only need the "shock" folder from the CD.

As an added question, why is SS2 Mod Manager recommended?  For the ease of turning mods on and off?

Mainly that yeah, uninstalling mods without the manager is cumbersome to say the least.
But the mod manager also auto-fixes the registration of LGVID.AX, which gets regularly lost on the Vista/7 and it has other useful tools, eg fixing broken key bind files. That's why it's recommended.
