Maps of the VonBraun? Don't lie to us, unn_atropos, you knew of this beforehand. Admit it!

Really excited for this.  It'll be nice to be able to get copies for my friends legally again.

Interesting how in the RPS interview nobody mentions NewDark. The guy kind of sounds like he's blowing smoke about his own fix-up efforts.

yeah. btw;
do note that no GOG personnel has participated in the speculation topic on the GOG forum. if this was a hoax, they would deny it rather quickly, I think.

and it wouldn't be the first time a random guy managed to do something considered close to impossible (hey, maybe his mother works at that insurance company).
told 'ya :headshot:

I guess we wait and see. It will soon be obvious the foundation they built the release upon. But still, this is such a massive step after such a long time of "stuckness". Should the game sell on GOG, and I am quite sure, it will, who knows?

AFAI understand, the rights gained address the digital distribution only, and everything else is NOT bought of (correct me if I'm missing something).

yeah, I doubt that they've secured anything more than the redistribution rights. still, it's a start.

bet one more emp grenade that those 35 000 people all trying to buy 3 seconds after the game becomes available will crash the site.

We have an expression back at home, roughly translated, from your mouth, into God's ears! ;)

That expression exists in pretty much every language.

hope we are ready for the traffic, a lot of users will be streaming here as well, especially if the GOG release won't be patched with the 2.4 NewDark patch.

god of games?
They have yet to get VTM:B on there, so not quite. God of PC games only too, they'd need some specific console masterpieces to truly be the god of games  :thumb:

Agreed.  In the RPS interview, they asked the GOG rep twice for details about what was done to the code.  He was, I felt, deliberately vague with his answers.  If they didn't use DDFix (though, a possibility) or NewDark (very unlikely), then they've simply done the minimum to get SS2 running on modern systems.  Night Dive/GOG probably didn't accomplish anything remarkable.

At least the interview confirms existing mods will work with the GOG release.  Which is good news.  So that should mean NewDark can be used with it.  (My main concern was that they might change the format the game assets are stored in.  Though, I admit it was a pretty unlikely possibility.)

I'll be grabbing this release, despite having a boxed copy.  I'd like to get those extras.  Plus, supporting this means more System Shock in the future, in whatever form it takes.  Be it SS1, or something new.

Interesting how this upstart managed to blindside GOG.  The only way I can see Night Dive succeeding, where everyone else failed, is because Kick or another person involved must have close ties with someone at EA or Meadowbrook.  I mean, this guy literally came out of nowhere - with no programming experience, only modeling skills - and somehow managed to secure the rights to System Shock.  Someone called in a personal favour.

Gaining access to the licence for a limited digital release might have included access to the source code as well. We'll be smarter tomorrow.

I very, VERY much doubt this release won't be mod-compatible with vanilla SS2. People would be howling for GOG's blood if that were the case. Pretty much every discussion I've seen has several people mentioning SS2Tool, Rebirth, SHTUP, SHMUP, etc.

they've already said in the interview that mods will be compatible. this pretty much means that the resource format has not been tampered with, and that's all we need.

Well, I just hope the customers wil be better off with the default GOG version than with the botched Thief release a while ago.
