Mod installations with a steam copy, how?

Hi guys, I've never played this before, and I'm a little unsure about the process for installing to recommended graphics mods. First the rebirth mod, that told me to put the mesh folder in the SS2 directory, simple enough, however the SHTUP mod I figured I would ask you about just to be sure. I am using windows 7 here, vanilla game works without any problems it seems.

most readmes are outdated - all mods should go into the DataPermMods (or, alternatively, DataTempMods), as described here.
