Are there any SS2 mods for controls and inventory pausing?

Hello all! I installed the Steam version of System Shock 2 with all the recommended mods listed in this site's newbie guide. The game runs great although  I find the controls somewhat unintuitive.  If I search something with the 'use' key or open the map screen with 'm', I need to press the 'inventory' key to exit, whereas in most other games, the same key is used again. Cycling through different tiers of psi powers with the Functions keys is also rather annoying, and somewhat made worse by the fact they cannot be remapped.

Since many HUD functions are click activated (no key for the PDA for example, or a 'Take All' key) it would nice if the game paused while on the inventory screen.

Thanks for the reply! I've just entered the first deck with zombie-like creatures. Could you tell me if they are endless?  I can kill 10 of them in a row with my wrench before my luck runs out, but if I run away I don't seem to encounter as many in the halls.

Exactly what was happening. Impressive game considering the year it was made.  I finished Thief 2 recently and was a big fan of Bioshock 1 & 2, so I'm hoping to enjoy this too.

Sure they can. You can remap the 12 function keys to whichever psi powers you want. Using the MFD, hover your mouse over the psi power you want to assign, then hold down the "shift" key and push the function key you want assigned to that psi skill. The 'F' number will get overlaid on that skill so you can easily see what you ended up with.

No, that would be smegging terrible. You're not supposed to be safe while poking around in your inventory. You're supposed to go hide somewhere if you need to do inventory stuff.

There is a shortcut key that plays the most recently picked up unread logs. Knowing that saves a lot of trips into the PDA.

Things like this is why people complain that games are being turned into casual friendly piffypoffs.
You should never feel save in this game, it adds to the atmosphere. Pausing in inventory just kills this.

you gotta love the way Deus Ex handles this - if caught hacking, all enemy AIs will respectably wait until you are done and only then blow your head off.

GMDX? Yes, you are no longer invisible whilst hacking. AI still courteously wait around for you to finish a conversation though, not really anything I can do about that unfortunately but it is a rare occurrence anyhow.
I did consider having inventory not pause the game on hardcore mode too because I love that about System Shock, Underworld, Dark Souls etc, but I decided against it, I don't remember why.

Because if more people conformed to our favored style of design it would be more in demand. It gets frustrating that this masterful design is the underdog to "AAA" garbage in terms of popularity and financial success....at least that is why I care. ZylonBane is probably just enjoying fucking with you. You come to warm to his douchebaggery after an extended period of time.
