SS2 MedSci door won't re-open

I have the hotu version of the game. On the first level there is a room that I enter and upon trying to leave the door won't re open. Is this possibly from saving the game while inside the room? It's not a big deal, I just loaded another save, but I was wondering if that is a common problem?

what is "the first level"? Med/Sci? Don't you mean the room with a keycard on the floor that will hint you to proceed into next room?

I mean the first area in space after you wake up. I'm at work and can't remember the exact location, but I'll write later. You know, that one room with the security container and the monkey?

Yeah, that one. That's a pretty nasty puzzle to fry your brain overnight until you solve it finally.

You'll get the most satisfaction out of this if you solve it yourself. If you still can't figure it out, here's some advice.
Spoiler: You can avoid the door locking by not turning on the light in the backroom. But there's another way out.

the room is specimen analysis in Med Science. I walk in and the room gets darker. Then I'm locked in. I didn't save while in the room.
Update - I did not turn on the light - no change. If this is a puzzle, that's cool. I thought it was a glitch. I'll try to figure it out.
