shlink has supreme performance and better stability, but is limited to 640*480, and there is no music. SSP has music and supports up to 1280*1024 (set in the options menu once you start a new game), but you need a beast of a machine to run with decent speed on those resolutions.

Cheers for clearing that up. Now, reading the enhancements list on the SSP post, would these be integrated into my game if I played using Shlink (main ones I'm worried about being audio logs and basically getting the game to look like it does in the SSP screenies. I'd be happy with it looking like the screenies in all honesty.

just set up SSP as you like, and then drop shlink on top (basically, extract the shlink archive to RES, and edit the GamePath in shlink.ini manually to point at the resources). that should get you what you want.

Right... when it comes to SS I'm a complete newbie. I'm struggling with conflicting instructions from comments in this thread, the readme included with shlink and the instructions on the SSP post.

Do I still enable mouselook etc as per the SSP instructions? I've tried it and mouselook appears not to be working with shlink. Just looking for a quick "easy guide" for a quick set-up for best possible graphics, mouselook and as many of the SSP enhancements that will work with shlink.

Thanks in advance. Oh and cheers voodoo47.

EDIT: Main point of confusion in the shlink readme is some mention of OCDSHOCK.EXE, as I'm not sure if I need to do anything with this or not, maybe it's the way the readme was written or maybe it's just my head is fried, either way I'm a little perplexed.

just tried with the latest SPP - download it and extract, run SSP.exe, enable the first three mods, and exit. extract shlink.7z to RES, edit shlink.ini (inside bin) and change GamePath=E:\dos\games\SSP\RES to GamePath=..\

run shlink.exe (inside bin), start a new game, set the resolution to 640*480 in video options, and set messages to "both" in the audio options. get the music and play it in the background with your favorite mp3 player.

Okay this is hopefully the final stupid question, but... does mouselook mean I can look up and down? If so mouselook isn't working.

you need to toggle it with the E key (as you still need to use the classic mouse mode for all interactions). feels a bit clunky at first, but you should be able to use it smoothly after 15 minutes or so.

Thank you, guys
I'm currently very busy, but I haven't given up on this. I'm currently studying (Computer Science), and I'll graduate by the end of 2014... I expect to keep working on this after graduation.

Any news on this guy?

Yeah, he graduated. https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=1719.msg81769#msg81769

This would have been easy to find out if you were registered, WhyNott. Just saying. :)

My graduation ceremony will happen tomorrow. After that, I'll start digging and organizing everything I've done related to SS and continue working with it.

DaniB :cyborg: t...      i have arrived!

1st: Malba Tahan, you are teh_man! Thank you very much for bringing in your coding/analyzing skills for a good thing! ( U) And of course all the rest of the gang who did that important work which lets us enjoy one of the greaterestest games in a very new dimension. You guys are awesome!
(Enough ball licking for now..)

shlink is the way to go if you don't have a super-computer like all the cool kids and can play on 13000x37000 resolutions at 1337 FPS.
Like me on a Core2Duo 2,13GHz, 3GB RAM, 1000MB GT220M i'm having problems playing with SSP's DOS-Emulation.
With SSP even at 640x480 its not running at full-speed and gives a notable lag compared to the far superior shlink variant.

The music can be played via Winamp or whatever player you prefer, there is enough extracted music out there in the interwebz which sounds actually better than the original music with... the stock MIDI setup... and even REMIXES! I collected all the available music, sorted it by Level on the station, put it in folders and if i enter a different zone i just ALT+TAB out and switch to the folder of the current zone i'm in at the moment to have the right music playing. EZPZ

Anyways, playing alone is only half the fun which brings me to my current problem and reason why i'm posting here.
I want to stream System Shock 1 via twitch.tv but i encountered a problem which makes it impossible or at least really uncomfortable for me to do so :/
Btw i use OBS OpenBroadcasterSoftware to stream games.

1st scenario: If i try to record and stream the game in fullscreen mode it's not capturing every layer i think but only the top-layer which is only text.

Fullscreen monitor capture mode:
Intro screen

1st seconds in the game
Image: http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150410/leqs8beu.png
Standing in the room with the equipment and listening to Rebecca's Log
Image: http://fs2.directupload.net/images/150410/zncuhyta.png
The millisecond i switch to the System Shock.exe
Image: http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150410/do8od64o.png

2nd scenario: I want to play in windowed mode but it's not scaling up properly :(

Windowed mode
Image: http://fs1.directupload.net/images/150410/oeqkmh7p.png

TL;DR: Want to stream on twitch but fullscreen capture is not capturing the game properly and gives black screen and windowed mode is not scaling up, plz helpz! kkthx?

EDIT: Apperently spoilers are not what i expected in this forum. How do i make pictures visible and not just links ?

Thanks for all the effort.

it shouldn't be, the author is still around, and planning to continue working on it (see his post from february).

Awesome. Can we use this combined with the mouse-look mod?

it's already in. apart from not supporting any higher resolution than 640*480 and not having music, it's pretty much fully working.

I have a question for people who happen to be more knowledgeable than me on the subject of GPL and GPL violations. Looking over the source code of SHLINK, I've noticed that some of the files contain a copy of GNU GPL license which states, among other things, that SHLINK is released under the terms of the license in question. Considering that EE's loader is a derivative work based on SHLINK's source code, am I right in assuming that the license extends to it and dictates that its source code must be made available as well?
