Hello I am trying to translate the System Shock 2. The problem is Ä and Ö letters. I found that I can use german version to get ä and ö letters in the game, But the First menu they don't work. ( I mean the menu that says: NEW GAME, LOAD GAME, SETUP....)

I have found many .fon files, but I can't open them... I think if I can open .fon files then I can change some letters that I don't need to look like Ä and Ö. (For example I don't need the letters C and Z, these letters I can moderate)
Or is the menu letters in some bitmap file?

If I some how can access the menu letter file then I can draw Ä and Ö.

Thanks!

FON files are a proprietary Looking Glass format. You need Telliamed's Font Tool to pack and unpack them. It's included in the DromEd Toolkit.

Note that all SS2 interface fonts are based off the Square721 font family. You can find a copy of it, and some discussion on using the font conversion tool, here.

Thanks for the info!!! The only bad thing is that I have Mac OSX... Can not try that now... :P

Do you have tried how this tool works? How the .fon files works? Are they just pictures that you can modify when you have compressed first with this tool?

THANKS!

The unpacker makes bitmap PCX files. If memory serves, there are some of them in the interface CRF file.

You get a little mixed up reading all the junk being passed around.
