I'm having problems with the improved turret. Something seems to be wrong with the TU_SHEL2.dds file because my turrets just look like before...

EDIT: Never mind. I confused them with laser turrets.

Most likely an installation problem. Just extract the "obj" folder from the archive into DataPermMods or DataTempMods.

These look like great textures, but they don't seem to match the originals. The door looks nice and used, but unless all textures are done in the same style it sticks out too much. The new door texture reminds me of the steel doors from Doom/2.

The turret texture is nicely updated but the rivets detract from the straight lines used in the original style throughout the game.

Love that wall texture lighting in Vurt's post on 06th October 2012!

They're not really supposed to match the original textures 100%.. Eventually the whole game will be retextured (hopefully) and hi-res textures with more detail will blend in better than with the original ones (which are very plain).

The turret texture isnt very good, it was something i did really quick. I've now made an update with a better one, which includes the backside.

That's one high bar you've set for yourself Vurt. I hope you get there in the end!

It'll be great to see SS2 with a new skin. I personally prefer the original look with the clean lines and sterile environment. It is reminiscent of the Cyberpunk/tech look at the time and reminds you that steel is all around you.

Edit:
Oooh. One more thing. I forgot to make a suggestion about the turret model. Can you add the yellow and black warning lines? In "real life" if there is a life threatening device nearby there is usually an accompanying sign with bright markings.

I don't want to seem overly critical... you are doing superb work.  I just want to comment in general that I think we're a bit too married to the idea that everything has to look old, scuffed up and decomposing else it's not realistic.  I few flecks of dirt would probably suffice without putting a huge gash through the caution sign.  Again, superb work but I think it's a bit much.

There was this cryo sleep and stuff, but that time doesn't wear stuff out that much ;)

Don't know about the rickenbacker, that ship is an older one, right?

If you look at the model you can see that that the sign is hardly visible because it's so tiny on the model, so it doesnt matter that it's overdone on the texture. The original turret is also worn, it's definetly not shiny new looking, it was one of the things i didnt like with the previous texture, it was too clean compared to the original.

Hey, you're right! It is mirrored. Perhaps the top of the turret is rotated?

Looking a the skin Vurt posted you can see that "caution" is correct and "security station" is reversed.

New textures... to go with the model.  I was sick at looking at such a poorly constructed design as a rocket made of a 4 sided cylinder with the wrong aspect ratio and no visible nozzle.  As a rocketman, I can accept nothing less than perfection from such things.

Thanks for these vurt. As you know, I've been using your explosions and I've found that the re301 model replaces the explosions on cameras, incendiary grenade explosions, and even the PSI pyrokenesis projectile (see my update to the thread over in engineering). For the "fire" explosions and PSI power, the blue electrical field feels a little off. How do you feel about tweaking this one to be a bit more orange/red and a bit smaller in scale (as it looks a little pixelated as it is scaled up kind of large)?

it would get very pixelated if i made it smaller due to how the explosion 2D sprite-thing works, it really stretches the texture out so i've already made it very tiny (and the engine up-scales it tremenously and pixelation occurs). Maybe there's a way to change size with the .dml instead. That way it wouldnt get so pixelated.

I believe the engine will scale the source image depending on whatever is specified in the gamesys. How about upping the size of the .dds images to 512x512? You won't notice on the small explosions, but when the engine sizes-up the larger explosions, the high res. will be pretty apparent.

I just had a look at the source files and the original texture for the turret model has the words "security station" mirrored. Looks like this is essential to the game design.

Essential to the game design? It may be an incorrectly set up model. But it looks like vurt would just need to mirror the
CAUTION
sign as well to fix it, unless the texture is used elswhere.
